Cowboys Free Agency

Anyone notice how the Cowboys are not being linked to any free agents? There is no real "guy" out there that has been for sure designated as a sure-fire target of the Cowboys. Even during the Parcells era there has always been 1-2 guys we knew for sure the boys were targeting heading into free agency but not this year. The team apparently is doing a very good job of holding their cards where only their eyes can see. It should definatly be an interesting start to free agency Thursday.

IMO, these should be our top 5 targets, not in any order:

1: Adam Vinatieri
2: Will Witherspoon/Akin Adoleye
3: Jason Fabini
4: Kevin Mawae/LeCharles Bentley
5: Lawyer Milloy

Get any 3 of those guys, and we will be a much better team, especially if two of the 3 are Vinatieri and oine of the centers.

Hope you are right, but just to play devil's advocate, maybe nobody wants to play here. I can think of several reasons why it's not the most ideal situation in the league-lame duck coach, not one of BP's "boys," etc.

I also think they are doing a good job of disguising what they want to do in FA. As someone else on the board posted all the news up to this point is rumor and no one really knows what will happen. I'm pretty sure we've contacted a few guys so far and we'll get one or two right away. We have the money and Jerry's not afraid to spend it!

Maybe they don't want to overpay for a bunch of overpriced, "name" FA's. I've yet to understand the obsession in wanting to sign every guy out there. Yes there are guys out there who would improve the 'boys, I'm sure the Cowboys know who they are already and are ready to strike. Plus, agents are throw **** out there to drive up the price.

We've got a plan I'm sure. Just because we or the media isn't privy to Bill and Jerry's plans, doesn't mean there isn't one.

I don't remember hearing a thing about Anthony Henry or Marco Rivera last year before free agency. As to Ferguson anyone could have put 2 and 2 together and seen that one coming.

So when Jerry fired Campo in December of 2002, who did you want to replace him with? Considering that this team had to be stripped down, redisciplined and rebuilt so that they could be competitive in four years?

With the massive amount of Poopoo (as Emmitt so eloquently put it) that was infesting this team, it was going to take a minimum of four years to turn it around.

Nobody could have done a better job than Parcells.

As soon as teams really start to cut players to get below the salary cap this will all change. Right now, it is very difficult to even speculate who will be available.

Trenton Times (registration required): "Word is Dallas will go hard after Vinatieri, while Green Bay and Buffalo, two tough places to kick, also will be in the mix."

Boston Globe: "His heart is in New England, but if McGinest's body gets on the open market, he will find many suitors, according to NFL sources, and he will have a hard business decision to make. The Browns, Cowboys, Chiefs, Chargers, Dolphins, and Jets are interested in him."

Houston Chronicle: "Expect Coleman to contact the Dallas Cowboys to see if he can be reunited with Bill Parcells, who coached him with the New York Jets, and cornerback Aaron Glenn, his friend and former teammate with the Jets and Texans."

The team was not stripped down nor rebuilt- a bunch of over the hill guys were put in place to go along with a bunch of young losers from Campo's regime. The team should have been blown up from day one and they should have taken their lumps in year one rather than fiddle farting around to a lucky 10-6 season, making him think he had more than he really did. Then, in his defense, his dumb QB goes out and ruins his career/life so Parcells is forced to use a turd at QB. However, late in the season he is still using the has been when he has two young QBs getting splinters in their butts. Parcells drafts have been OK (not nearly as great as some want to believe), but his offensive line picks have been putrid. He has not done a good job "rebuilding" the team- he has done a good job in achieving a low level of mediocrity and that's all I expect out of this team for the rest of his time here. I was all for him when he was hired but after three years he looks like an overpriced has been to me. Hopefully that will change this year but I'm not optimistic.

Who else is left now except LA and ROY and Adams and Ellis? I am trying to think of anyone else- GLover and Dat are gone.
BP has had either bad luck or bad picks on the O line. But otherwise he has done quite well. Tnew, JJ, Witten, James and the whole D draft last year. MB3 looks good as well. That is 11 players in 3 drafts- all either starting or significant contribution. You will find that NO TEAM does better then between 1/3 and 1/2 in getting draft choices to contribute significantly. Even the best years under Jimmy we were at 1/3 of the draft doing well- and that is with a lot more picks.

we have 7 players that are 31 or older. and 4 that are 30. 11 Out of 53.
NOT exactly the over the hill gang. Bledsoe, Key, LA, Terry, and Ferguson are the only ones that are starting. so someone needs to do a little research before they post.

I am in Charlotte, and I don't know that Will Witherspoon is right for the 3-4? He is a heck of a good player, and can cover, but is pretty light. In Charlotte, fans and the PAnthers really want to figure out a way to keep him. However, everyone in this market seems to think they gave too much money, to an always injured Dan Morgan, and will not have the money to resign Will. Would be a good fit for the Eagles unfortunately, and that is what they are talking about on local radio.

I agree.

Take a look at the Jets....now, I don't know if their plan is going to work...but they're rebuilding...bottom up...with youth...

I wouldn't call what's being done in Dallas "rebuilding"

I'm not necessarily knocking it...I'd just prefer it if Parcells would have torn down the organization from day one...and not brought in the amount of old timers that he did.

Yep, that's the thing- rebuilding means scrapping it. You take your lumps and go from there.

Unfortunately there is no grey area here- if you support Parcells you are labeled a Kool Aid drinker and if you criticize him you are called a chicken little. I just call it like I see it. I don't hate the guy, but in my opinion he is not the answer. The answer is a young guy with no pro skins on the wall and no pro reputation to go on- a hungry guy that is willing to take chances and make a name for himself- preferably some guy from a major college program that is not wedded to a particular scheme offensively or defensively and will put the best players on the field whether they fit a particular scheme or not.

Finally, to those that say the team is not old, the core of the offense of this team is old- spin it any which way but loose, but it's nursing home old (and not that talented either) and not capable of winning a division title, much less anything better. Bledsoe is fine if given the time (but he will only get worse- he will not improve at this stage of his career), but the OL is old and or below average, the WRs are the same, the RBs are young but unproven (right now I think Barber is ahead of Jones). The only real consistent threat on offense is a TE. The offense needs a major infusion of youthful talent this offseason if even a mediocre season is to be expected. Let's just hope some free agents are willing to give us a shot.
