Cowboys assistant head coach/offense Jason Garrett is the "mystery candidate" for the Rams' head-coaching job.
Garrett will interview for the position Wednesday and is among St. Louis' five finalists, along with Rex Ryan, Steve Spagnuolo, Leslie Frazier, and Jim Haslett. GM Bill Devaney is thought to prefer Ryan above the others, but the Ravens' continued success may have Buddy's son falling down the list. Jan. 12 - 3:14 pm et

First I have ever heard of this. A bit strange

Well that's real smart -- I'm not going to hire that guy because his defense is too successful in the playoffs right now.

If Jason gets picked over those candidates I would have to question their GM's mental health.

Interesting.

And of the 5, Garrett is the only one that isn't a defensive coach.
Also see that Frazier is the popular "Rooney Rule" choice this season.

I guess that's a factor in why the Rams are currently where they are.

Much like the seemingly 'status quo' approach in Detroit...

But wait someone started a thread saying there was no interest in Garrett as a head coach...

Rotoworld.

Take it with a grain of salt.

Notice Ray Sherman is NOT mentioned and we all know he was interviewed. Color me a skeptic of this.

from what I have seen Hos, rotoworld appears to be on top of things. I don't ever recall let alone on a frequent basis them posting incorrect information.

Great, maybe he can take his "mystery offense" to the rams with him. What did Steven Jackson call us -- soft? What better way to get back at him than to deliver Garrett and his offensive scheme to his doorstep. :laugh2:

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Jason Garrett, the assistant head coach-offensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys, is the so-called “mystery” candidate in the Rams’ head-coaching search, league sources told the Post-Dispatch on Monday. Barring an unexpected complication, Garrett will interview Wednesday in Los Angeles as one of the Ram’s finalist interviews.

According to league sources, the Rams have settled in on five finalists: current Rams coach Jim Haslett already has taken part in his finalist interview last week in L.A.; Minnesota assistant head coach-defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier is scheduled to interview there Tuesday; and it has now been confirmed that Steve Spagnuolo of the New York Giants will interview in Los Angeles on Thursday. (The Giants have granted St. Louis permission to speak to Spagnulo.)

The fifth finalist is Baltimore assistant head coach-defensive coordinator Rex Ryan. The only reason why Ryan was interviewed in Baltimore Sunday instead of in Los Angeles is because the Ravens are still alive in the NFL playoffs. Whether the Rams can afford to wait on Ryan, particularly if the Ravens win Sunday, remains to be seen.

I agree on Rotoworld, anything with Roto is dicey.

But I think this was in a St. Louis paper as well.

And Sherman never did interview with them. He was waiting to do so and didn't for some reason. That's what I remember reading on Saturday.

it's because they can't interview him until the ravens are done and if they win this week...are you going to wait another 3-4 weeks to announce a coach?

Yeah, that's the dumb thing I was pointing out -- not waiting on a guy because his defense is so successful.

If they don't hire Rex Ryan, I think Frazier and Garrett are the next two guys, imo.

it happens every year. the difficulty is that hiring a coach that late leaves you WAY behind to fill out the rest of the staff as many will already be hired and additionally your new staff is way behind in evaluations of current players, FAs, draft for the direction you want to proceed.

Dude, it's the Johnny Come Lately syndrome. None of these guys would have hired Whisenhunt in Arizona after the Steelers went 8-8 in 2006. They don't look at football knowledge, character, or anything like that. They don't understand stuff like that. They play Madden.

Rotoworld just reports what's verified in other sources. It's just a way to get all the current news in one webpage.

Anyway, Garrett has proven himself to be a failure on every level.

Playcalling ... Fake reverses on 3rd and 1. Nuff said.

X's and O's ... Other team's players mock him. Ours openly question him.

Leadership ... His unit openly fractured and splintered into cliques. They also openly called him out in the media.

Adaptability/Flexibility ... Losing a middle of the road interior lineman singlehandedly ruined his entire unit.

Player development ... Romo is actually worse today than when Garrett found him two years ago.

Teaching ability ... Evidently none of WRs knew where to line up or which routes to run. The pre-snap alignments looked like utter chaos with Romo directing everyone where they were supposed to line up.

Ability to get the most out of his talent level ... Somehow Anthony Fasano was able to be among the Top 20 TEs in the NFL under another coach, but Garrett ran him off because he couldn't him to even be a capable #2. We had to pay out the nose to bring in a #2 WR, because somehow Garrett couldn't find a way to make his offense work with just a Pro Bowl WR, one of the top three TEs in football and just a servicable #2.

Forming a team identity ... This offense has no identity. Supposedly we're built to power run because we have a big fat OL, except that Garrett has shown no committment to the power running game. So now we run shotgun formations an inordinate amount of the time with big fat offensive lineman who have pass blocking against speed rushers.

Balls ... He had a great homerun threat in Felix Jones and he was petirified to use him. He insisted on giving the MB3 25+ times a game. It took an injury to MB3 and Felix before he had the guts to even give Choice a shot.

I like Garrett but I don't see how someone can sit there and tout him after his performance with the offense last year.

I mean you got an oline that can't protect and you don't change your game AT ALL to adjust for it. I would be willing to give him a chance as HC but I got to tell you I am not convinced that we will be much better on offense next year if the status quo remains intact.

I don't think he has a feel for playcalling and I don't like what he was doing at the end of the year at all.

I don't have a problem with people liking him, cause I like him, but badmouthing the people who don't , that is a little extreme IMO
