The Cowboys are only $177,005 under the salary cap and have had conversations with second-tier free agents such as linebacker Chase Blackburn, guard Matt Slauson and defensive end Amobi Okoye so far.

Livings and Bernadeaux worked out so well, let's try it again with Slausen?

Wouldn't doubt Jerry getting another JAG so he would feel justified passing over O-line 1st round (and maybe even 2nd round) yet again.

Yeah, let's go into the draft with the mindset that we have to draft one need position in the first round no matter what at the expense of whatever else might be on the board. That worked out great with Shante Carver and David LeFleur.

That went out the window when they changed schemes to 4-3. Soonest an OL gets drafted is 3rd (Schwenke), outside shot for 2nd. They fully intend to stick with last years G's and upgrade C IMO.

This is totally my opinion but I think there is a 90% chance that they take an OL in either round 1 or 2. Now I also think it's also likely they take only 1 OL in those first three rounds. Slight chance of two. With DL, OL, FS being the positions if they take one of each.

I think there is a 50% chance they take an o-lineman but a tackle, not a guard. I think there is less than a 20% chance they take a guard in the 1st round. :D

I could see that. The two OGs in the 1st if available though could be the pick. In the 2nd a OT is more likely. They seem to like Terron Armstead who is an OT but he could probably play OG too.

--I used percentages just to show how "confident" I am they are taking an OL early.

Armstead would make good sense in the 2nd.

I can see the Cowboys going d-line in the 1st if Cooper and the tackle from Bama are gone.

Its an 8-8 team staring down 4-12 next year.......

What does this have to do with this thread? This is trolling, I would think a veteran poster like you should be above that.

A little over reaction to Slauson? This guy can pass block better than any guard we have now, has played for Callahan before, and is a hard worker(something this team lacks on the o-line). His signing, by no means, stops us from taking a lineman in the draft. There will be an offensive lineman selected in round 1 or 2 guarenteed.

Thank you. I would rather have had Donald Jones or Geoff Schwartz, but this guy at the very least would provide depth and competition.

Talk about reaching from the "we have to draft an olineman first rd" crowd.

I agree. He would be by far the best interior lineman this team has, and he is only 27. Not against that at all

Signing Slauson is a great idea, let's sign an OG from one of the worst rushing teams last year, who have no plans on re-signing him. Championship! Did the front office not learn from last year?

Just stick to the BPA during the draft and we will have our next great guard for the next 10 years.

This is getting ridiculous. The team is looking into signing a veteran G with starting experience, with experience in our OL coach's system, who can provide solid depth and start in a pinch (unless you really think Ron Leary is someone to rely on). If all of you people are so gung-ho about fixing the OL, then why the hell wouldn't you want to get people to fix the OL?

Just because we might sign Slauson doesn't preclude us from drafting this years DeCastro Iupati God Guard who will catapult us into the playoffs.

It might mean guard becomes a lower priority, which means we would have flexibility on draft day. Nobody can convince me flexibility on draft day is a bad thing.

Everyone around here gets all caught up in this 'we need a first round lineman' groupthink. There's plenty of good lineman in this draft and can be had past the first round as well. And the difference between a Sheldon Richardson and Akeem Spence is probably a lot more severe than the difference between Warmack and Dallas Thomas.

Fear rules. People here fear Dallas won't draft an OL in the first round if it signs a FA. Of course, they ignore the possibility that Dallas won't draft an OL in the first round no matter what it does or that an OL worth drafting might not be there when Dallas drafts.

I'm all for improving the team/depth as much as possible before the draft, then trying to upgrade the roster through the draft with the best players available. If that happens to be an OL in the first round, I'm certainly all for it and would prefer one over a player of equal value at any other position.
