Seems to me the plan is to find a veteran on the cheap to backup Parnell, whether that's Free at a reduced contract or a FA like McKinnie. I think we would've signed Clabo/Winston by now if the staff wanted to sign a FA starter.

I think Dallas simply doesn't like the price tag on these guys. The Cowboys see them as stopgaps, not long-term answers, so they are trying to do the right thing by their cap.

I'd rather Dallas just make sure it gets either Clabo or Winston, but I'm desperate to finish fixing this line.

Ravens reached a 2-year deal with McKinnie.

Good. Maybe this will force Dallas to finally make a move on Clabo or Winston.

This aint 2002.

With that said I think if Parnell is the guy than this guy would be a great cheap option as a swing tackle.

Doesn't bother me that he stayed in Baltimore. There are guys I'd rather have but I have no doubt there is no way the guy could have played worse than Doug Free.

We would be getting another Livings and Bernadeau, we don't need The Three Stooges.

LOL. One is a Bengal cast off, the other is practice squad player on a bad Carolina team and the third is a very good starter on the team that just won the super bowl. I can see how you would group them together.

That third was a castoff from a 6-10 team the year before he joined BAL, fwiw. Perhaps we can all get our heads around the idea that not everybody on every bad team is a bad player. And vice-versa for the players on the good teams.

And I think McKinnie was on the bench and in Harbaugh's doghouse until a late season injury forced them to juggle their offensive line. Their right tackle moved inside, Oher moved from left side to right, and McKinnie took over as left tackle. He played well in their playoff run, but until the injury, he wasn't a starter.

Curious to see what his contract looks like for the sake of the tackle market. Hopefully they kept it around $5M over those 2 years, gotta keep the OT market low if we have any hope at all of getting Clabo or Winston.

I think we'll end up making a move for one of them, but it will be tied more to what Free does as opposed to McKinnie re-signing w/ Baltimore. Don't think we were ever interested in him. Notice how the Ravens got him signed shortly after his name was mentioned in connection with the Cowboys? Drew Rosenhaus anyone?

2 years, 7 million, which certainly sets the market now... this wasn't good.

According to PFT:

UPDATE 6:27 p.m. ET: Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that McKinnie’s deal, which includes incentives, has a maximum value of $7 million and includes an undisclosed signing bonus.

Yeah not good....although he is a LT and they are always gong to be paid more than a RT. 2 years 5M doesn't seem out of the question for an equivalent RT. 1M less per year sounds about right actually. I'd be more than happy if we got Clabo at 2.5M per over the next 2 seasons.

Just glad the Cowboys are putting out feelers on OL players. I do think the Cowboys will add to the OL this off season.

I'd feel incredibly good about our OL if we sign Clabo or Winston.

McKinnie doesn't interest me.

When I clicked on this thread, I assumed there would be people salivating over signing him.

I didn't imagine someone would actually suggest this, though.

Congrats.

You lowered the bar beyond my wildest imaginations.

I award you two innerwebs.

He's just saying that Smith/McKinnie > Smith/Free

I don't think it's smart of the Cowboys to tie it to what Free does. They've got the money now to get one of those guys, so get him, then offer Free the minimum to stay and pat him on the back when he refuses and celebrate the freed-up money that comes with that.

I'd offer a two-year, $6 million deal with $3 million in bonus. The RT then would cost us $2.5 million this year and $3.5 next year.

I'd even be willing to up the bonus to $4 million, for a split of $3 million per year.

He was in Harbaughs doghouse. One because he felt the Ravens weren't paying him and he was cut and then he was "forced" to sign below market value oh and he showed up to camp out of shape and overweight. He thought the Ravens needed him more than he needed the Ravens. I would not be surprised if they used him the same way they used him last year, they are going into camp with him as the swing tackle and the fall back if none of their young tackles wow them enough to keep him on the bench.

Ok if you guys think he belongs in the same breath as the 2 stiffs we have at guard, you shouldn't be allowed to watch football ever again.
