Please we abandoned the run last year even when we were running down their throats and had big leads. See the Green Bay game as an example. If Garrett doesn't blow that we are in the playoffs.

What you say is true, but that line wasn't that good. Looks like this season we can run at will, that has been a long time coming.

That's what happens when you have a functional O-line.

Bill Callahan, the guy whom Garrett was rifting with last year, the guy whom Jerry didn't let walk.

Plus, they only added Martin last year. Nobody told the coaches to abandon the run against Green Bay. They could have just as well ran last year.

This is the offensive line last year. Maybe you forgot that the Cowboys had to bring in Brian Waters last year because the guard play was so bad. Waters ended up getting hurt and the OL was very inconsistent week to week. But please continue in your denial...

They brought in one veteran to start last year. Leary is their other starter now besides Martin and he was undrafted in 2012. Free, Leary, Frederik and Smith were all there last year and three of them started.

Please just stop!!! We had a functional o-line last year too but Garrett was still in control of the offense no matter what title Callahan had.

Functional yes, but the line was still a little inconsistent especially at the guards and Fredbeard was a rookie. I think the competition that JG started for the LG spot and Fred having a full year in the NFL has helped immensely. I think that has helped the interior line plus the addition of Martin this is the fruit of all that labor. The only glaring weakness if you want to call him that is Free at RT and he has been playing much better especially in the running game. Free was decent to good as a runblocker but he was always more "get in their way" type of blocker, this year he has upped his game and is much more physical and is stronger at the point of attack. He still has flaws in his game when it comes to pass protection.

Now imagine what this line will be next year if all the pieces stay the same and Martin now has a year in the NFL under his belt.

I'm just glad the front office read all of our posts last year, and have finally seen the light.

See Jerry, we told you so. Now don't be a stranger.

No change in starters this year except martin for bernadau. Our o-line was good last year. We averaged 5 yds per carry. We were pass happy.

I said the Cowboys O-Line was inconsistent, when did I ever say anything about Murray? I thought the O-Line play was uneven last year.

We led the league in yards per carry or close to it last year. Our plan last year was to pass to set up the pass.

We abandoned the run far too often last season.

Linehan gets it.

The Oline was good last year. The playcalling was trash and predictable.

Gotta give all due credit to this entire team for the success we're seeing in our ground game now. It takes more than the effort of one or two men to make this terrific transition come about. Give the entire organization a big pat on the back for making this happen. Let's just see where it takes us now. Things are finally looking up.

When I said "functional" it was directed at the post I quoted by Sinister. We had a very good o-line last year. The problem was Garrett had too much control of the offense and would abandon the run. The Green Bay game is the perfect example of this. We were running down their throats and had a big lead in the first half and then we became pass happy in the second half to the point they came back and won the game. Just look at the history which speaks for itself!!!!

Okay, you agree with me and then say our o-line is better this year. You are correct but that does not mean our o-line was bad last year. Garrett was making the calls to abandon the run last year. It looks like Jerry has finally taken away all of Garrett's offensive responsibility and given it to Linehan who is not abandoning the run. Our o-line is slightly better this year due to adding Martin but the biggest difference on offense is it is Linehan who is calling the shots and Garrett is just the clapping figurehead on the sideline. Conclusion, less Garrett = better offense/team.

I think we were in the top 5 last season in terms of points/offensive drive, weren't we? I know it's fun watching the running game work, but I think getting better defensive play has been the bigger difference, overall.

I hate to be a downer, but we were pretty hyped after week three last season, too, irrc, after beating the Giants opening weekend and then spanking the Rams pretty bad in week three. There's still a long way to go this season.

Sorry, but we had a pretty dang good o-line last year too, but a different person was in charge of the offense. Not to say our offense was not good last year, it obviously was but due to too much passing we did things too quickly which led to puuting our piss poor defense back on the field too quickly. That was Garrett who was the main offensive guy. Jerry, who admitted Garrett was a trainee, has mercifully taken Garrett out of the offense by giving to Linehan. Less Garrett = better offense production and time off possession which means less of our bad defense on the field. Add to that that Marinelli has done a great and you see why our team has improved. Less Garrett = Improvement/

And yet...top 5 in terms of points/offensive series. Go figure.

The problem last season was with the defense.

The problem was Garrett running the offense. Thankfully Jerry has FINALLY realized that problem and put Linehan completely in charge of offense. If we are to be stuck with an incompetent idiot like Garrett than this is the best solution we can hope far. Take away as much control as possible until he is just a figurehead clapping on the sidelines and roll with it. I give Jerry credit so far this season that it is working. Less Garrettt = Improved team.

If this fantasy helps you to feel better about the current state of the team, then I'm all for it. But again, we were very effective last season in terms of points/offensive series. You can't really expect the offense to do more than be productive when it has the ball. And we were among the worst in the league in defense. To whatever extend we can give Scott Linehan credit for fixing those things, I'll all for it.
