I'm fine with it. I think Carr is a good enough corner as long as the defense doesn't give the QB all day to throw. Having him, Scandrick and Jones all locked up to reasonable deals would allow this team a lot of flexibility for the next few seasons, even if it means Carr moving to Safety at some point. That is certainly not a bad thing.

I have not reviewed Carr from last season; however, a guy was on local sports talk radio the other day that has reviewed Carr in detail and he says Carr was terrific in some games near the end of the season, terrible earlier in the season and OK in the playoffs.

My own recollection is that they moved him around some late in the season with him playing the other side at times. He had not played on the other side at all previously as far as I can recall. I assume this was done for match up purposes. He seemed to start playing better about the same time that I noticed him moving around.

I still think Carr is a really solid CB. I think he let some things get to him mentally over the past few years (getting abused by Megatron and his mom dying) that dropped his performance on the field and made many fans hate him. But he's the only CB we have capable of playing at a very high level. I think Scandrick is the most consistent and hardest working CB we have, but he just doesn't have the talent Carr has. Scandrick and Carr can be a very solid tandem if they're both on their game and they get help with a pass rush. That's why I'd like to see Jones at FS.

Brandon Carr will be a MUCH better player this year with a pass rush. Maybe even Mo.

Every DB is going to be better with a pass rush and Carr is better than some give him credit for
Also as xwalker points out an extension is likely to be a nice way to cut what we pay him, not increase it
Even if jones is nfl ready, Mo is not likely to be back next year so you don't want to lose 2 cb in one year

It's amazing how a little confidence can effect a player, especially a cb
A big part of the game is mental
There is a reason players almost always have great contract years
It's not that they didn't try the others but it is a motivating tool. It's so much about a players mindset

I can't say how much was his confidence issue. But in this league, without a decent/good pass rush, it's hard to grade a CB. The defensive line just compliments the secondary far too much in today's league. Some CB's can play at a high level even with poor pass rush, but those CBs are far higher levels in this league and there are very few.

I have no problem waiting and seeing what Carr and Mo can do with an improved pass rush.

For which reason? Jones being good or being a bust. He does have a high probability at being a bust..i know everyone loves the rookie and backups, but if he becomes a Carr its a good pic

For the reason of if Jones has an amazing year Carr is more expendable and has less leverage in contract negotiations.

You feeling alright buddy?

They just don't want to say to the media that they are trying to work out a pay cut for him and instead they call it an extension. When they say extension, they are likely referring to him taking a pay cut from his scheduled salaries which are not guaranteed in exchange for smaller salaries that are guaranteed.

Pretty much this. Hilarious how this is lost on so many fans. And I've been saying this since last year.

His performance improved greatly once they switched to a more man coverage heavy scheme towards the end of the season. He's not great in zone and never was. Once they started playing more to his strengths and moving him around he was a very solid CB.

To me it is just on principle that something needs to be done.

They can't play hardball and let DWare, Murray, Parnell, Carter, Hatcher and DHarris leave over money

and work out incentive deals with Hardy, Melton, McClain and Lee

re-do deals like Free, Bern and OScan

and just keep allowing Carr to collect 50m while severely underperforming. Especially since none of the money left is guaranteed.

We'll be losing Mo after this season. So, we'll be losing two starting CBs if we go by what you're saying.

Even if Jones has a phenomenal year, we'd still be in need of a CB. Scandrick needs to stick defending the slot. So it's either we draft a CB again and hope we hit or we go to FA and overpay for another CB.

But I agree with what another poster said, the bust rate for Jones is much higher than the success rate if we go by recent first round CBs.

Mo is not a starter. I would just not factor him in going forward.

I expect Carr to have a great year this year.

If we have the pass rush I think we can have, the entire secondary will look better
I don't expect to lead the league in sacks, but I think we can really improve our sack totals and more importantly improve our pressure

Reduce it to $7m AAV but guarantee him over $10m works for me. He was set to make $8m this year and more the following two. Use the cash advantage constantly. He is historically a very good player and I think he was finally starting to get comfortable with the scheme by the end of last year.

So give him a 3/21m deal with 11m guaranteed and a 9m signing bonus

......................base.........old pro-rate.......... new cap............old cap
2015...............1m...................4.7m...............8.7m................12.7m
2016...............1m...................4.7m...............8.7m................13.8m
2017*.............10m..................2.7m..............15.7m..............12.4m

*voidable

So he gets this year's original 8m plus another 3m guaranteed. It might be enough to get a deal.
