ESPN reporting that at least two teams have reached out to talk to the Cowboys about OLB Greg Ellis -- just saw this on SportsCenter at 7:02PM EST.

Hos - any rumblings from the inside on who the potential trade partners may be?

or we've reached out to THEM?

A. or B.?

Apparently at least two teams have contacted the Cowboys with potential interest in Greg Ellis when we put it out there that he is on the block - I think another thread has some more info about this from DMN/Todd Archer.

I would probably imagine we won't get much outside of a draft pick(s) for him? Thoughts?

With Tim Andersons injury, Siavi is really the only BU behind Rat right now.
Wouldnt mind getting a decent NT prospect with some size and upside.

Why would anyone want to trade for Ellis and his contract when it is clear we are going to cut him?

Probably because there are 30 other teams and I don't think the Cowboys are in a hurry to release him.

So you lock him up and don't have to compete with other teams? If you think you can really use the guy paying a 6th or 7th isn't a big deal and the contract could be reworked.

The same reason why we would trade for Roy Williams instead of waiting for him to hit Free Agency. You want to insure that you get him without a bidding war.

The site "The Landry Hat" is saying Cincinnati and New England are on the Cowboy's list, for what that's worth.

Thats interesting if those are the teams. One is a legitimate Super Bowl contender and the other is not. But Greg Ellis would probably rather go to Cincinnati where he could go back to being a DE.

And back to his old DC Zimmer.

:starspin As much as I would like to see us get something for Ellis, I feel the same way. Why would anyone want to trade for Ellis when they know that if they're patient, they will be able to get him for nothing. IMO, our only hope is that if there really "are" two (or more) teams that are actually interested in Ellis, and not just someone claiming...that there are two teams that are interrested in Ellis, in the hope of generating some possible trade interest. Again, of course I would like to see us get something for Ellis, however, I'm inclined to believe that teams will just wait until we release him and then pick him up without having to give us anything for him.

I'd be thrilled if we get something for Ellis, but I don't expect to. Either way it's fine, I just want to see him gone.

Because, as has already been said... to insure you get his services.

Let's say Cincy does want him. If we release him and Cincy, New England, Minnesota, and Tampa Bay all then all try to get him... Cincy's chances of landing him are rather slim, and if they do, the price might have been driven up beyond what he already makes.

If they simply give up a mid to late round pick, then they are not only assured of having him this season... but they also already know what they are going to have to pay for his services.

Roy and Ellis have nothing in common with each other.

Ellis is at the end of his career and you would have to be stupid to pay a backup DE that kind of money.

Jerry made the move for Roy because he thought it would give us a legit shot to make a run last year.

Ellis at this point might help a 3-13 team get to 5-11.

Bidding war.

That's cute.

thx, I imagine it was cool and in hindsight that was probably the best win of the season. awesome defense, barber looking like barber and the cowboys winning in DC for the first time since 2004.

Okay, so easy concepts can't be explained to you. 3 different posters said the same explanation to you within 1 minute of your question.

That's sad.
