Why? Your offense is good, you can finally run the ball, and you have a lot of young talent in the back half of your defense.

This team needs a pass rush, and it has as good a chance as anyone to win the East.

Yeah you can finally run the all but when have the Cowboys ever made a concerted effort to do that? The hiring of Linehan tells me that they will continue to feature an off balance offense by choice. You overestimate what the Cowboys have right now. They cannot count on the division being as dismal as it was last year and they are not better on defense than the team that came from behind took the division away from them last year.

He did get 11.5 sacks playing for Marinelli in 2012. I would be happy if free agency got us Melton on a 5 year deal and peppers on a 1 or 2 year deal. At least we'd have a viable front 4 and can add to it in the draft and address safety in the draft early.

Enough about frigging Rod Marinelli. Peppers was beast mode long before he met Rod the DL God.

I don't want anything to do with Peppers. 34 years old and was overrated in his prime. I don't mind Melton because he's only 27 and we might be able to get him for cheap, but nooooooooo way on Peppers. Unless it's like one year for $3 million.

I've been upset at letting Ware and Hatcher go without really giving them an offer and flat out told them to go test out the market. They both did and got top dollar to leave Dallas. I frankly don't understand why the Cowboys FO don't entice our FAs in other ways rather than luring them with big money. Some players would rather stick with a team that they like their entire career even though it meant taking a pay cut. Ware was willing to take a paycut to stay in Dallas. I don't know about Hatcher, but he said it seems that Dallas didn't want him so he went out and tested the market as well.

If we sign Peppers to the same amount of money we could have signed Ware with I'll be even more upset. Peppers is older than Ware and his on his last leg in the NFL. Frankly I would have kept Ware for lesser pay and put him on rotation. Sign a starter passrushing DE in the draft and call it a day. But thats not going to happen because our FO doesn't have a clue.

I hate to break the news to you, but $$$$$ is the only reason somebody would play for Dallas.

We aint Denver or New England that can promise playoff games or a chance at a ring. All we got to offer free agents is money and this year there is not a lot of money to offer.

Ware and Hatcher left because we did not "show them the money". Did you guys seriously think they were going to give us a hometown discount to play on a 500 team?

Thank you for this post bro, I knew not all fans were doom and gloom. We barely lost the division with a bunch of bums on the line and ware playing like crud but our defense will get worse by adding younger talent, depth, and a experienced 43 pro bowl DE? ?

Fair enough, and we'll see. But what do you want? Garrett turned over the entire offensive line, the entire defensive backfield, the entire offensive backfield, and now the entire defensive line. You want Dez, Romo, Lee, and Witten out, too? That's pretty much all that's left?

This roster is now very young except for Romo and Witten, and 34 is really not that old if Romo returns from the injury OK. Lots of quarterbacks play very well into their late 30s, and Witten is still extremely effective and should be for 2-3 more years at least.

Overrated? Wow, if you don't want him fine but that's horrible.

Dude is arguably one of the most feared rushers of the last decade. He's constantly doubled and chipped and still does his thing. He was asked to do more than rush last year having to cover, and he still had a good season.

No, they left because Dallas had no serious interest in keeping them. Denver and Washington will rue those decisions.

Because of the money, which exactly is my point................Dallas was not willing to pay what the market price was and both players said "see ya".

That is my whole point, that Dallas has nothing to entice free agents but money and if some other team offers more, "see ya".

Nobody is taking a discount to play on a 500 team.

If the Cowboys signed Milton and Ayers, combined with drafting a 1st round DT and say a 3rd round DE, I'd say that's a decent start. Throw in Crawford, Selvie, the two guys they just signed and one other guy (Bass?) and it's something to build on.

The market price is stupid.

Notice that all of the really good teams are laying low, except for Denver.

He really diddnt have a good season. He was a non-factor and wasnt even getting double teamed by the end.

We saw two different players then because every bears game I saw peppers was being schemed against. He was being asked to cover tight ends at times and roll out to the flats, so his numbers are misleading. He's not the same player from Carolina but he's still a top DE that lines have to plan for. And proven ithen the Tampa 2!!!

Where did I say I wanted those players out? Garrett has little to show for said turnover but I have absolutely no quarrel with ANY of the star players on your list. My opinion is more oriented toward the defensive line at present, without which Marinelli's stew just won't go down very well. There are question marks in the LB unit and the secondary but not the crisis that exists on the d-line currently. I don't mind a lost 2014 if 2015 heralds a much improved unit up front. They need speed, heft, quality and depth.

I guess I meant underachieved. The most physically gifted pass rusher since LT but there are a bunch of guys I would take over him as best of this generation, like Ware, Allen, Mathis, Freeney and more.

Freeney, and Mathis aren't better imho. Its easy to get sacks when your team is up by 20+ all the time and all you have to do is pin you ears back and rush.

Not to take credit away but those two were always overrated to me. Allen is a beast tho, as was ware.

I am thinking this "interest" in Peppers could be one of two things:

1. An added incentive for Henry Melton to sign with Dallas if his pal or mentor also re-unites with Rod Marinelli; OR
2. A Plan B if the Seahawks don't let Melton out of their building; which could be the subject of my nightmare tonight.

From reading your post you would think that Linehan did not use Robert Smith and Steven Jackson extensively.
