DeCoud, who turned 29 on Wednesday, made the Pro Bowl after a six-interception season in 2012. He started all 15 games he played last year and said he also has received interest from the Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Ravens, though he does not have any other visits set up yet.

Sounds like the idea is "were interested", not "are interested".

He was awful with Atlanta, took bad angles and didn't even try to tackle anybody. He just gets in front and hope they trip over him.

Atlanta fans were celebrating like it was 1999 when he got released.

We should kick the tires on this dude. He's already better than JJ Wilcox. Paired with Church, we'd have an immediate upgrade to our secondary.

I believe we have the NFC South on the schedule this year. He knows all of those teams which would be an added bonus. He's 29, so we could give him a 1-year deal which would buy time for JJ Wilcox to be ready next year. Let JJ watch and learn from a former pro bowler.

Well considering that I don't think we have a single FS on our current roster he'd be a big upgrade. It's pretty silly to write him off after 1 bad year, especially when he played on such a bad team. If he's willing to sign a reasonable 2 year deal Id say give him a shot.

Funny that NFL.com had nothing but good things to say about his tackling coming out of college...http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/thomas-decoud?id=1357. Maybe a little humility after being cut would bring the hitter back out of him.
They would all be clamoring to draft the guy in that write-up.

Just like everything else these days, it doesn't surprise me that the cowboys want to backup their line with da cloud.

From grantlands column last week on fa bargains. I have no idea if he can play but find it funny some are sold on the lineman we signed As quality depth. I am guessing most thought different before they signed as cowboys. Do we really have any idea if they can play?

Dallas needs to sign a veteran safety if they do not draft one high. That can't just gamble on the guys on the roster currently.
--------
Henry Melton, DT: Arguably the highest-upside player left on the market, Melton is another one who tore his ACL in 2013 after a Pro Bowl season the year before. He really found a role in Chicago as a penetrating defensive tackle in its 4-3 alignment, which is why the idea of suiting him up in Seattle has been so tantalizing. There doesn’t appear to be a financial fit there, but with rumors currently linking Melton to the Cowboys to play Jason Hatcher’s old role, it’s hard to imagine the Seahawks wouldn’t be able to outbid the cap-strapped Cowboys if they so desired. If Melton is willing to take a one-year deal to reestablish himself, they would be wise to do so.

Thomas DeCoud, S: DeCoud struggled notably at times during 2013 and was released by the Falcons to clear up much-needed cap space. He was also, for one, playing free safety behind two rookie cornerbacks for virtually the entire season. All the way back in 2012, the Falcons liked DeCoud enough to give him a five-year, $17.5 million extension, and he responded to the new deal by picking off six passes and making his first Pro Bowl. DeCoud turns 29 on Wednesday, but there is still enough here for a safety-poor team like the Bills, Chiefs, or Lions to try to buy low.

Wilcox has shown he can tackle, that alone makes him better than Decoud. And as some here from Atlanta have said, the only ball skills Decoud has is when the ball is directly thrown into his hands. He doesn't make plays on the ball.

I still think Wilcox will show why he was drafted. He was playing decent, or at least shown some good signs before his injury. Then when he returned, he was then played with rookies and 2nd or 3rd teamers, and they all struggled.
However, why not bring in both DeCoud and Clemons. Nothing like good competition. Needs to be salary cap friendly of course. Not sure at this point it's possible salary cap wise.
However, I am not opposed to just drafting one.

So we make our judgements based off of biased opinions now?? Ok.

But for those who actually read up on the guy it seems he was stuck on a horrible defense last year, with two bad corners no pass rush, and a offense that kept him on the field. I'm not one yo jump to conclusions but I'd think those played a part in the decline in play. I find it hard to believe dude goes from probowler to trash in a year.

"Lucky interceptions"??? Lmao what in the heck is that? It's called assignment and clearly he was in his proper position.

For a low-risk, inexpensive depth signing, the guy would make sense. I'm surprised they haven't brought in Major Wright, though, honestly. Don't confuse these moves for anything other than Poole/Allen type signings.

Agreed on Wilcox.

To judge that he's a suck based on a part-time role in his rookie season seems like a case of premature evaluation to me.

Decoud would be a good option. The Falcons had zero pass rush last year and a ton of different linebackers, of course there safeties were going to look bad.

Shoot William Moore there best safety looked horrible last year.

Recent ESPN Atlanta article with William Moore discussing Decoud getting cut.

Zero pass rush and a ton of different linebackers? Not sure I see things going much differently with the Cowboys this year, considering what will likely be a below-average dline and the same cast of characters at linebacker that cannot seem to stay healthy.

Again, comes down to dollars. Scouting report on him says his strength is covering, but doesn't tackle well. Basically the opposite of any safety on Dallas roster now. Dallas needs guys that can cover. Only 29 years old, bring him in for a workout and if you feel he is an upgrade over what we have now; you try to sign him to a cap friendly one year deal.

Need to make something happen defensively. Hoping to plug 3-5 holes. Or at least get some better play out of the guys we already have. I'd throw all the resources possible to help the D this offseason. If there's a player marinelli likes, go get him.

He's still never played FS in his life, Church had to play there last year with Wilcox. I'm not saying he shouldn't be given a shot to win a job, but not bringing someone else in as well would be a huge mistake. Unless they really like a prospect and have plans to take a S in the first 2 rounds.
