Cowboys | May discuss releasing Adams
Fri, 05 Mar 2010 16:12:42 -0800

Clarence E. Hill Jr., of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has acknowledged that the team will discuss releasing OT Flozell Adams because of his age, injury history and contract status.

By the way, I was turned onto this KFFL site. Does anyone know if they offer any kind of desktop ticker or anything?

They may discuss it, but I kind of doubt they do it. Then again, if they feel Free can handle the job it saves a ton of cash.

I thought Free looked stellar at RT but not so much at left, albeit that was a tough situation to get thrown into.

I'd prefer to pay Flozell. While I agree we need to seek an eventual replacement for him I dont think it should be this year, we're too close and he's too valuable. Our superbowl dreams went down when Flozell did.

Flozell manhandled Jared Allen in the Minnesota game before he got hurt....one of the reasons I want him back at least one more year.

He might not be quick at the feet anymore, but he's still a mauler. He could lengthen his career if he moved to LG, but that'd almost be too big a change to make it worthwhile.

This would be beyond stupid, in my opinion. Why make our team thinner and put our QB at risk by toying around with left tackle? Flozell was solid overall last year and better than many starting LTs in the league. He pisses me off just as much as the next guy, but our OL is thin and Free has proven nothing at LT. This would be a major mistake. Flozell has done a very good job against many top DE's. Wait until next year if we have someone better AND a capable backup.

I don't disagree with you one bit.

I'd rather commit Free to LT this offseason and give him every opportunity to beat Adams out. Also, I'd draft a LT just in case.

Dallas can afford the roster spot of basically drafting for the future and letting Adams prove he still has it.

Free showed he can play. Can he stay healthy, that remains to be seen? And Free has a good chance of beating Flo out for the position in camp.

It probably depends a lot on what they think of Brewster and what they get in the draft.

If they draft an OL high (1st or 2nd) then they will definitely cut Flo.

And Flo will then sign with the Giants and be buddies with Osi.:D

You don't get rid of the Hotel until you are sure you have another tackle on the team that can play. Right now we have 3; it would be stupid to go into the season with only two and nothing else but rookies.

I don't see a quality LT left before the #27 pick, but there are hidden gems in the draft.

Maybe not. Maybe someone falls. Maybe Dallas rolls the dice on the workout warrior.

Never know. I wouldn't go into the draft with a 'LT or bust' attitude but if the right guy was there, I'd take a look.

This was from his comments at the Combine.

The good news is that the Cowboys don't have to make a decision on him until June when he is due a roster bonus. Although his agent, Jordan Woy, has informed the Cowboys that he would rather have a decision made sooner than later, Jerry Jones said the decision about Adams is not about money but skill and dependability. They liked what they got from him in 2009 after a down season in 2008. The question for them is what to expect next season when he is a year older.

"If we could have a season like that out of him [again] this year, it would be great," Jerry Jones said. "I was very pleased with his season. But certainly, that's the question mark. That's when you have decisions to make. Can you get [another] year like that out of him?"

Other mitigating factors are the emergence of Doug Free and the possibility of taking a top tackle in the first round of the 2010 draft. The Cowboys certainly liked what they saw from Free during his time as an injury replacement for Marc Colombo last season and they like his potential. The question is whether they are ready to trust him to protect Tony Romo's blind side.

Man, I hope not. That workout warrior looks like "fools gold" to me.
