THIS says it all guys
Jones said on Wednesday after the North team practice at the Reese's Senior Bowl that the Cowboys do not feel like they have to take a quarterback with their first pick -- No. 4 overall -- or at any other point in the draft.

"There are many options," Jones said. "There's free agency ... We have to (draft a QB) to do what? We have to win a Super Bowl next year? Do we have to compete for a Super Bowl in the future? Do you have to have it in place after this draft? There's no have-to here, in my mind, because we have the luxury of having Romo here for three, four, five more years."

To me this says jerry will not draft a qb at 4 or at all lol.

I think you draft one at 4 and dont sign a vet , let the drafted guy be # 2.

Again, Jerry is only one voice in the draft room. He listens to his son Stephen and their scouts before any decision is made. Qb or not.

yeah but by the senior bowl he would have discussed this with them, and still said that.
It could be to mislead other teams, but sounds like 40 yr old brain to me.

We could be getting a DE at 4 and next a new TE !:lmao2:

Broddaus (I think it was he), said on the Break that he talked to a scout and they don't even have their draft board finalized yet. Until then, we won't know who they prefer.

LOL that's the problem we think finalizing the board is done the day after the draft.

Not having Romo's replacement in place is season suicide. Colt, GR3, or any backup should not preclude the Cowboys from taking one of the top 3 QB's in the draft with the #4 pick. Then again, it's Jerry running the show. 20 years of ineptitude has proven he doesn't have it.

IMHO, the Cowboys are more than likely intending to look for a vet QB backup that could come at a fairly reasonable cost and provide reliable talent as well. Colt McCoy should very likely fit that criteria better than any of the others. I'd much prefer to see us sign him on than the likes of RGIII, who would surely constitute a more risky undertaking.

Signing Colt McCoy is not any better than Weeden, Cassel or Moore. Man I hope Jerry isn't talked into signing McCoy when we could draft Wentz, Goff or Lynch.

I think it's a good idea to sign a backup even if we did take Wentz.

I would like to take a QB and do whatever possible to keep them off the field this year.

2/13: The Cowboys could be interested in Colt McCoy. - Todd Archer, ESPN
Read more at http://BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1/nflrumors/freeagency#VHL1GDybBGs6vJbq.99

The Cowboys are keeping their cards close to their chest this offseason, and while their has been much speculation over them drafting a quarterback, owner Jerry Jones has made it known that he doesn't believe his franchise must take a quarterback in the upcoming draft. If the Cowboys don't draft a quarterback and are looking to sign a viable backup option for Romo on the free agent market, Commanders quarterback Colt McCoy could be a "interesting option," according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

McCoy's agent represents Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, and the quarterback they acquired at the beginning of last season was Cassel, according to Archer. For that reason, it's plausible to see a potential deal being done and McCoy returning to the state where he played in college. The former Longhorns quarterback would likely not be a long-term solution, but it would provide the Cowboys with a viable backup who can lead them to wins if needed.

This all speculation by archer, title is very misleading. And did Archer really use their instead of there? Lol man has journalism really bottomed out or what.

I think he's referring to the game from 2014 when McCoy and the Commanders beat our eventual 12-4 team.

Either way...one game does not make a career.

I have seen too many backup/journeymen type QBs have career games vs the cowboys over the years.

If we go into the system with Kellen Moore or Colt McCoy as our backup QB than the front office has learned nothing. Only would work if we drafted one of the top three QBs and leave them at 3rd string to learn.

No but they have talked about it and have some general ideas.
And apparently jerry isnt onboard with a qb at # 4.
the reason being is he thinks romo has at least 3 and maybe 5 more years!

Well since Jerry has a hard on for Garrett, we are stuck with the coaching............it aint getting any better, so plan B is to have a much better backup QB

But yes, we do have problems with coaching, not disagreeing with you at all on that.

Yes, we appear stuck with Garrett (God help us). Unfortunately there aren't a lot of good QBs in the world. "A much better backup QB," is almost guaranteed to be a starting QB somewhere.

This ^^^

Archer, they share the same agent as JG so he must be coming here, same as Cassel. What a reach!

Won't know until Stephen Jones and the scouts have their input on the qb's yes or no.

This, I think the win against us is all Cowboys world sees. He plays against other teams and has lost against other teams. I'm not saying we should or should not pick him up, but he's not the answer at QB.

To me, the future is in the draft.

I don't think that anyone was pumping it up as a career-defining moment, but more of an example of the player showing himself as capable.

I agree that both steps need to be taken. Sign a more capable backup for the present, and draft your franchise quarterback of the future.
