I believe a healthy Romo (throughout the season) makes the Cowboys a playoff team. Innovation/new wrinkles (from the coaches), personnel upgrade -- especially on defense, and luck will determine if they are a Super Bowl team.

If they can increase their output from 2014 from 29.2 PPG to 31+PPG then the defense merely needs to play as well as last year although I have reservations about this defense....several. I'm not certain it can maintain its PPG unless it improves its pass defense and pass rush which are proportionally supportive to each other. They must improve on their TO diff as well. This will make them a very effective defense.

Bottom line is the defense needs a playmaker at DE and DT; they need a solid Sam LB who can cover and make "splash" plays; they need a safety who can cover and force turnovers; and, they need corners who can make plays on the ball and tackle well.

It's a tough order but it's not impossible if the Cowboys sign the right free agents and draft players who can impact the current defense. They do not have to be difference makers, they just have to make a difference. This team can't afford to hold on to guys like Hayden, Wilber and Wilcox any longer.

It kills me how some people THINK that they know what Jerry is going to do... Jerry ain't drafting a QB at 4.. Blah Blah.. Jerry is going to draft a DB at 4.. Blah Blah. Jerry want Manziel.. Blah Blah.. Jerry wants RG3.. Blah Blah... All premature speculation.. I got news 4 y'all... Even Jerry don't know what he's going to do at this point... He just wants Dallas in the news and ATT stadium filled.

I took a recent episode of Cowboys Break as a bit more affirmation on McCoy.

After going through their short list of expected available quarterbacks, there was a consensus of opinions that McCoy would be the best option.

For what that's worth anyway, I thought it was another good sign.

And don't forget that the run game had to be altered to accommodate the ill-fit running back we signed in free agency.

McFadden had a great year and should be praised for that, but what does it say that you signed a running back who was poor in the zone scheme when that's what you were running? And then you altered your scheme mid-season to accommodate the guy you signed? Seems like a poor way of doing business to me.
With Romo there's a chance. ;)

Without Romo...

With Romo there is only a chance if the D gets much better and the run game is dominant. The chance of all 3 of those things happening is about 25% in my opinion.

You wanted C.J. Spiller. Signing him (costing more money) would have truly been bad business.

Guilty as charged. That would have been much worse business. Spiller's health was an issue for him all season. Problems with his knee I believe. He's likely to be cut and on the market again this year. Insult to injury, the guy's one contribution in New Orleans will end up being that play at the end of the Dallas game...
