Cowboys meeting with DE Clowney

My guess is, with the Bland injury, they changed their mind about signing Clowney and now want to use the open spot on the 53 for a CB instead.

I’m on board with Clowney, he’s probably better than all of our current DE’s.

Our entire dline is average at best. We’re going to have trouble getting to the QB all season long.

Unfortunately, Clowney won’t do much to change that but he should be ok at setting the edge and not being a negative in the run game

Our DE’s in general are going to struggle because we don’t have a single player on the entire defense that forces defensive coordinators tonadjait their scheme, which puts us in a reactionary mode from the first snap.
If Clowney has anything left and can set the edge and stop the run, I would sign the man. He is a veteran that hustles, he and Kenny Clarke on the same D- Line sounds good to me. Dallas gets gashed in the run game quite a bit on outside runs, Clowney may be just what the Cowboys need to fix this problem.

D-Law has had an infinitely better career than Clowney, who doesn't give a crap about football and just collects checks most Sundays.
You are biased.

They have both been in the league since 2014, Lawrence has 47 more tackles and 3.5 more sacks in his career. He has played in two more games. Clowney has 4 years with 9 or more sacks. Lawrence has two but does have one year with 14.5.

Not much separating the two.

For reasons that I can’t quite figure out, Clowney was always one of my favorite players, and I’ve always wanted him here. In fact I wanted to sign him instead of paying Amari Cooper if need be. It didn’t, and that was way wrong, but ok…..

What a strange career….never became the superstar he was billed as, but has hung around forever, and he can probably still play. If they can land him I’d look to dump Fowler and his salary, which they may be able to do.

They have too many pass rushers and too little run stoppers. If it suddenly became so important after you botched the Micah situation, go make this happen Jerry. It won’t because Stephen has probably set in his own mind what Clowney is worth and won’t pay a penny more. He’d rather just have a worse run defense and continue to blame luck when it doesnt work.
Totally agree with all of it good post. Always wanted Clowney here in Dallas as well. The Cowboys need somebody who can set the edge or Dallas will not be in the playoffs. And yes Ol Jerry and son do struggle with the day to day operations at times don't they.

Clowney got 10 million last year coming off a 9.5 sack season in 23, then last year had 4 less. Probably doesn't get 10 million, but the Cowboys were probably thinking it would be a few million rental for the year. Probably still looking for 5-7 million.

Sounds like a ZSmith signing for that amount with more production. Oh well... that ship has sailed.

For the record, highly doubt JJ agrees for him to join team for more than 3-4million.

I didn't expect a signing.

It didn't make much sense anyway for a team that supposedly loves their DE depth.
