I liked his pressure against NE. The problem is 3-step west-coast type offenses don't let you really get after them unless they are in third and long situations. That said, lesser players at LT/RT can make even early downs problematic for offenses, because DEs can enter the backfield and cause negative plays to happen. Hardy was a terror in the first half against NE and I don't think they were all strictly on third down...we need to see that and more today. Cowboys need to get them in third and 5 or more...go 3-2-6, bang around Randle/Beckham and then get home quickly. I can see a Lawrence-Gregory-Hardy three man line...McClain is beefier this year and looks to be more stout against the run, while still being fast enough to blitz up the middle.

On the whole, Marinelli has more talent in which to wreak havoc than he has had since his days in Chicago. What must he be thinking with Gregory's return?

If they keep have Eli get the ball out in 2 seconds, that's still and advantage to the defense. They only have to cover for 2 seconds in that scenario.

Sacks are 100% effective. QB hurries are not. Montana was not just rolling out. He was under pressure.

If one defense averages 3 sacks per game and zero non-sack pressures while another defense averages zero sacks and 12 pressures, the team will more pressures is highly likely to have a lot more turnovers.

If I had a great offense, then I might prefer the defense that gets sacks; however, if I had a sketchy offense, then I prefer the defense that gets turnovers.

Sacks in CERTAIN situations are "100%" effective. Forcing a fumble on a sack is effective, sacking on 4th down is effective; loss of yards =/= stopping drive.

That pressure/roll out created by the pressure on Montana on that play completely nullified one side of the field. The D-line did their job, coverage didn't.

And that is exactly why I say sacks are 100% effective. Montana gets sacked. The Cowboys play Cincinnati in the Super Bowl. You can have the pressures and I'll take the sacks and will defeat your team every time.

Cowboys really need Demarcus Lawrence to show up in the next 4 games.

I'm not down on him yet, especially without the help of Hardy for the first four games, or the offense in the last 3 games.

He hasn't delivered yet, but I think the combination or elements will now allow him to deliver. He is never going to see another double team as long as Hardy and Gregory are present and healthy. The question of how to stop Hardy, Gregory, Crawford, and Lawrence will be an interesting one for opposing offenses. Three of the four probably require a double team the majority of the time.

I see in Lawrence a lot of what I see in Williams. He isn't a top pass rusher, at least not yet, but with consistent single coverage against right tackles, he should begin to show up.

What team does he play for?

Guy is a bust, I've been saying it from day one, he's a finesse player without the skill set to be finesse.

The popular thought here on CZ was that the additions of Hardy, Ro, and the return of Gregory would finally allow D.Law and T. Crawford to finally show their full potential...

I don't think anyone on the defensive line will be as good as they can be if we don't improve the run defense which slows down a rush or the secondary doesn't improve their coverage and tackling ability.

Kool Aid Man crashed through my wall in August saying we had a stud Dline. Haven't heard from Crawford, Lawrence, or Gregory since...

I'm already worried about Crawford's contract. Dude gets swallowed up in the run game. You can't play him and Hayden together in the middle on run downs.

Crawford has probably been the biggest single on field disappointment this season.

I remember the popular CZ myths at year that we HAD TO trade up to land him because he was the last pressure player in the draft lol

The Cowboys are 11th in rush yards allowed per game.

Of the 4 categories offense rush and pass yards and defense rush and pass yards, the Cowboys highest ranking is in defensive rush yards allowed.
