The NFL goes in cycles. Air Coryell, Run and shoot... greatest show on turf... now no huddle and read option. How about building a no nonsense. tough ball control offense.. coupled with a top 5 defense. The way to beat the eagles, patriots, Denver is 3 and outs and ball control. boring yes but effective.

easier said than doen. to control the clock, and the ball, you have to move the chains. had we converted a fair amount of 3rd downs we would have totally dominated the clock. even though we did'nt convert 3rd downs well at all we still won the TOS. some of that was turn overs but much of it was quick passes to keep the chains moving.
the key to controlling the clock is converting 3rd downs which we did very poorly sunday

That's not really against the grain. Everybody is trying to build a defense you can't pass against. If you can run it to avoid passing game mistakes and play a good enough defense to take advantage of the other guy's mistakes, that's a legitimate way to win in the current NFL.

You do that, though, when you don't have a franchise QB to build your passing game around. No way am I in favor of taking the game out of the hands of our $100M best passing game weapon.
