Spencer a week away from pads would be what this team needs. Even at 60-70% that he would probably be is better then anything the Cowboys have at DE.

ESPN News on Scandrick by Werder. Scandrick had a mixed drink in mexico with something in it unkowingly. Werder said Scandrick is one of the most upstanding players in the NFL and has not tried to hide anything and has accepted his punishment.

The idea of placing any faith in Spencer makes me a bit uneasy. I think he'll have quite some work ahead of him to get back into shape, and they will spend a lot of time resting him to avoid setbacks.

This is good to hear. I guess this classifies as the "blessing" AbeBeta was referring to in the other thread: Orlando Scandrick is a guy with character?

If spencer can create a pass rush, or help with it, it will help the DB's as they will need it the first 4 games especially.
Hopefully it will be good news for once.

It might make you uneasy Count but the alternative will make you sick.

It would prefer to just keep Spencer on the PUP for the required 6 weeks. If he's not practicing right now, he's going to be very limited early in the season anyway.

If he is activated, they likely have Zero spots for any developmental DEs. Developing young players for 2015 should have equal or greater importance than trying to be slightly better in 2014 with an older, oft injured player, IMO.

If he's a week away from putting on pads he would have 20 days before the first game. Limit his snaps, and by week 2 or 3 he should be good to go is what this article is saying. Would rather know sooner rather then later how he reacts instead of waiting til week 9.

The minimum is 6 weeks, not 9.

The NFL has changed its rules regarding physically unable to perform (PUP) lists, giving players additional time to recover from injuries.

The new language reads as follows:

Commencing on the day after the conclusion of the sixth regular season weekend (October 15) and continuing through the day after the conclusion of the 11th regular season weekend (November 19), clubs are permitted to begin practicing players on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform for a period not to exceed 21 calendar days. Pads and helmets are permitted during the 21-day period. At any time during the 21-day practice period, or prior to 4:00 p.m., New York time, on the day after the conclusion of the 21-day period, clubs are permitted to restore such players on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform to their Active/Inactive List.

Before the change, players on PUP lists had until the ninth regular-season weekend instead of the 11th to resume practicing. The change means teams can now push back by two weeks the opening of the 21-day practice period. A player on the PUP list entering the regular season could make his regular-season debut as early as Week 7 or as late as Week 15 under the new rules.

The additional time could help a player such as San Francisco 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree, who is recovering from a torn Achilles' tendon suffered this offseason. The 49ers have not given a timetable for Crabtree's return, so it's not known whether he would need the additional time. However, it's nice for teams to know they could essentially bring back a player for a three-game tuneup before postseason.

I agree, it would be nice to know sooner but the only way I think you really know is when he's at 90/100%. If don't see what he really is when he's healthy, they you're stuck in wait and see mode and that's probably worse. I think I agree with sitting him for 6 and seeing what you have. At that point, you either know if you have a player by the end of the season or you know if he's done.

Ray rice knocks a girl out on tape and gets two games

Oscan has a little whacky weed and gets 4.

Makes total sense.

Normally I would say that's the biased commish for ya....

But I believe a precedence has already been set PED's, or whatever they said it was. It wasn't a substance they could say for a 1st time offender [that we know of] could go to a rehab or counseling deal, then only gets suspended on the 2nd violation.

I think his career is over.

Spencer's taken his time with his injuries since early last season.

That's probably why he's what we say to be ahead of schedule.

I don't think he's done. Just maybe not 100 percent of what he was. Probably more effective than Mincey once he's back to 80-full heath.

But dont you have to fail multiple drug test to get a suspension?
