Cowboys Offense Surprising No.1

Don’t look now, but the Dallas Cowboys have the number one ranked offense in the NFL. No, this is not my personal opinion, and no I did not make this up, I’m serious. While the Cowboys may not be ranked number one in the rushing or passing game, collectively they are the best.

So what does it take to be ranked number one? Well the Cowboys are producing an outstanding 420.4 yards per game this year. The Cowboys are ranked third in the rush averaging 161 yards per game, and eighth in the passing game averaging 259.4 yards per game.

While the Cowboys have accomplished this ranking against three teams with a losing record, let us not forget that they have also played against the two best defenses in the league (Giants No.1, Broncos No.2) so its not a completely deceiving stat.

Take it for what you will, but you just can’t argue with the numbers. If the defense can improve from its 21st overall ranking, maybe just maybe these Cowboys have a shot to escape this season with a winning record. But that is certainly a big IF.

that really is surprising considering what we've seen from the offense the last few weeks. Would've bet the farm on New Orleans being #1, who'da thunk it..

New Orleans can't run the ball. It'll bite them late in the season and in the playoffs when the games are won in the trenches.

With the way we are scoring, that's no comfort at all. That means we are very inefficient.

Their running game is much better this year with Pierre Thomas. A guy kinda flying under the radar.

Surprised Wade didn’t mention it in his press conference. Well maybe because it doesn’t promote how great his Defense is doing (ranked 21st). But I think it does show the potential the Offense has.

already posted and honestly who cares

points win games not yardage

until we stop making questionable play calls at key times to cost us points this offense will struggle

until we stop making costly turnovers and repeatedly looking undisciplined with our dumb penalties it wont matter either

These ranking are meaningless. If I had to choose which side is playing better so far, I would pick the defense. This isn't saying much since I also think our defense is playing like crap.

Anybody who's watched the last 3 games can tell the defense has been putting it's foot down (until the last minutes of the game) while the offense has moved the ball at will but keeps shooting itself in the foot.

Anyone stating otherwise has an alterior motive.

Now if they can fix the 2 minute defense and not shoot themselves in the foot on offense, how good would they be? IMO, pretty damn good.

Whether or not both can be fixed this season, I don't know. I hope so.

Which is why I've never been much of a hater for Garrett.

Stats dont always tell the story, but in this case they're highly indicative of the story.

Newsflash!

The Cowboys have won at least 9 games the past 4 seasons.

Hmmmm tastes so good...

now if we can just start converting all these yards into points and the defence can stop falling to bits at the end of games (though they held firm in overtime) we'll be laughing. this team is not a long way from being a threat

Cowboys are ranked 11th in points per game with 24.4 pts/game. Largely because they have a negative turnover differential (-4, and no one in the top 10 has a negative differential) and they have horrid starting position on drives (own 26.16 coming into yesterday's game, ranked #28, stats not updated yet for week 5).

Agreed. The offense has had some off drives and bone headed mistakes. They need to get better at protecting the ball. But the defense, besides folding on big drives (save the OT drive against KC), isn't generating any turn overs.

(all following stats BEFORE KC game)

The defense has enjoyed excellent starting field position (25.23, ranked 5th), but given up tons of yardage per Drive (33.8, ranked 28th). Basically costing us field position.

However, after this game, where the Defense largely stopped the Chiefs and the offense gave the Chiefs excellent field position on a few drives, that range should shrink quite a bit.

Yup. But I don't thnk KC is a high power offense.

As you've pointed out, that's a huge problem.

If our O starts at or before our own 20, gets to the 50 and punts, I don't nessecarily see it as a bad drive. Problem is our D will let the other team drive and negate our teams gains.

And 3rd and long. Jeeze. We can't get off the field.

Bottom line is, the offense is still doing what it did last year.....way too many turnovers and penalties. And that's why we're not even in the top 10 in scoring.
