Cowboys Options at Receiver are Wide Open

http://cowboyszone.com/2017/02/cowboys-options-at-receiver-are-wide-open.html

It’s unbelievable how quickly things can change in the NFL. Just last offseason, the Dallas Cowboys had what Wide Receivers Coach Derek Dooley called “probably the deepest” group “top to bottom” since he became the receivers coach back in 2013. One year and two UFA (unrestricted free agent) WR’s later, the position appears to be in flux.

The good news is the Dallas Cowboys have been here before and the team’s front office understand the importance of having depth at the wide receiver position. So when free agency officially begins at 4:00pm on March 9th, look for the team to be in the market for a receiver (or two).

Even though Executive Vice-President Stephen Jones has previously stated his desire to re-sign both Terrance Williams and Brice Butler, the decision will ultimately come down to dollars and cents. The Cowboy’s front office must weigh each player’s potential price tag with the team’s current salary cap space and then decide if the juice is worth the squeeze...

Just say no to TWill.

I'd like to add a veteran that just runs solid routes and doesn't drop the ball, but I'm not sure that opportunity will come.

In that case, re-sign Butler for peanuts, draft a guy in the 3-4 round, and get Dak's college buddy Ross later in the draft.

We still have Zeke, Dez, Witten, and Beasley.

No pressure here. A ton of #2 guys in the draft.

We're good.

At least butler has speed...

I'd say roll the dice on him this year. look to replace him next year, via FA or The Draft.

Dez Butler Beasley Witten and X draft pick, is hardly a bad group... although it is admittedly very thin depth wise. Maybe get the RBs involved in the short game that Beasley has taken over, let Beasley run longer routes? Zeke and McFadden can catch.

Williams don't drop passes. He had 0 drops this season

I want Garçon, but I'm afraid he'll cost more or as much as T Will, I just hope we can bring the Butler back and Dez can stay healthy.

Oh so he is garbage because he dropped 1 pass in the playoffs?

How many drops did he have in the season.......0. He is very reliable when passes do come his way

I never said he was garbage. He's not going to be worth the money. Period.

I watched him go invisible far too much, especially when Dez missed time. He's nothing special, and he's easily replaceable.

My bet is the Cowboys try to bring TWill and Butler back (neither should command a big payday and you can win in January with those guys) so they can use the draft picks on defense.
I would like to see an upgrade at WR from the draft and not FA....that being said, we do need to upgrade the position IMO

He won't command that much money. I'm not suggesting he will take the vet minimum. But no team will offer him big bucks.

Hard to put a value on him when you look at what a player like Marvin Jones and Sanu got, but also considering the number of wr free agents out there who many may consider better players. Personally I would put a value of 3 to 4 million a year on Williams. If he gets a contract worth more than that they have to move on. They can't afford to pay him a 30 million plus contract over 4 to 5 years. If Williams leaves WR does become a bigger priority and we probably need to consider addressing it as early as the 2nd or 3rd round.
