This is why I'm fine with going WR early in the draft. We need more than one for the future. I'd like to make the passing game not so Dez dependent.
I like the Ross guy from Washington ......sub 4.3 speed with skill

Sign a DE in FA and bring back Mo and Carr at CB so we can draft Ross

He won't command that much money. I'm not suggesting he will take the vet minimum. But no team will offer him big bucks.

I think he'll get overpaid.

Really, I just think we can do better. If we sign him, then it's going to be more of the status quo.

I think there's a lot of guys in the 3-4 rounds this year that have some good potential.

I'll take my chances.

Just say no to TWill.

I'd like to add a veteran that just runs solid routes and doesn't drop the ball, but I'm not sure that opportunity will come.

In that case, re-sign Butler for peanuts, draft a guy in the 3-4 round, and get Dak's college buddy Ross later in the draft.

We still have Zeke, Dez, Witten, and Beasley.

No pressure here. A ton of #2 guys in the draft.

We're good.

This is really the best plan by far. Not sure why so many wanna see Butler else where. We are a run based offense and he played his best while Dez was out. He can hold down the fort will a rookie develops.

While it'd be great to be less dependent on Dez.... A legit top 10 wr option.... Not just no. But hell no to investing in wr early.

It's that kind of stupidity that's led us to having a terrible defense a decade and counting.

I never said he was garbage. He's not going to be worth the money. Period.

I watched him go invisible far too much, especially when Dez missed time. He's nothing special, and he's easily replaceable.
If he is nothing special and easily replaced then why would he cost too much.

Uhh, his drop or pass that bounced off his pads was a killer in the playoff game.

But, please continue…
So 1 drop pass in the playoffs and 0 in the regular season but yet he can't catch or is terrible. Beasley, Dez and Witten all dropped multiple passes but yet no hate on them. Williams gets hate from 1 dropped pass......in the playoffs

The reason that body-catching bothers so many, including myself, is that it's a ticking-timebomb. Having a limited catch radius and body-catching technique will eventually rear its ugly head, and as Cowboys luck would have it, of course he did it in the playoffs, when it counts most.

Jackie Smith is a Hall of Fame TE but most know him as the guy who dropped a pass in the Super Bowl (bounced off his pads while trying to body-catch by the way). You can downplay it as "1 dropped pass," but again, Williams' drop is all about the timing.

I never disliked TWill, but I despised his technique. If he signs elsewhere, he'll eventually be known as an OK receiver for us — certainly not worth some fans getting all up in arms to defend.

When a team goes 13-3 all their FAs cost too much. TWill will get ~34 over 4 years. You decide if that's too much. That's the going rate for a vet established #2, maybe now with the cap space around the league.

Here is a problem, since they paid Dez the big $, that means with a # 2 like TW, when his contract comes up you have to pay him at least
half of what you paid your # 1.
Since Dez has not played all that much or that well, it makes it even harder not to pay TW good money.
you have to either pay him or let him go elsewhere and then draft a rookie high , like 2-4.
I would like a guy with blazing speed , and good hands, or a big guy who can go up for the ball.

TW isnt really that bad or that good, it is just is he worth what you have to pay him.

Which was mostly because of Dak's efficiency and the running game, as well as the Dez effect when he was healthy. Beasley was a force too.

TW being a mediocre #2 is a big reason why we struggled vs better pass defenses, and why he was a non-factor in just about every game Dez was injured.

I'm not sure why some of you dudes can't see it. I never said he was terrible, or that he was even that bad. But he's not great, and I honestly saw Butler make just as many big "splash plays" as TW did all season.

You can find about 10 different TW's in this draft alone. Many of them will be better. I bet Ross can come in as a 6th round draft pick and probably have better rapport with Dak than TW ever did.

The position needs an upgrade. Re-signing him will ensure that the attempt this year will be minimal, at best. Likely case ignored completely outside of a late round development prospect.

Cole Beasley 75- 833 - 11.1- 47 5
Jason Witten 69 - 673- 9.8- 35 3
Dez Bryant 50 - 796 -15.9 - 56 8
Terrance Williams 44- 594 -13.5 - 47 4
Ezekiel Elliott 32 - 363 - 11.3- 83 1
Brice Butler 16 - 219 -13.7- 41 3

Cole earned his money in 2016,finished # 1 I didnt think he would ever do that good.
Jason who many say is too old etc finished 2nd
Then Dez the 70 million dollar man missed some games , but managed to out do TW for 3rd.

Then TW hmmm well he beat elliot and butler, but finished 4th , and really as the "# 2" should have done what cole did, finish first
with dez missing a few games.
or at least finish # 2 ?

TW has some great plays, some bad plays, same for games, but overall he is pretty avg.
So should they pay the avg guy to keep being # 2 who winds up 4th in catches??
