Cowboys place Non-exclusive Franchise Tag on Pickens

You're thinking about the old Cowboys. They have evolved. Jerry is saying players who can contribute now.

Now that we have that sorted, have you browsed our gift shop?
You're right. We should easily be able to find six or seven of those in this year's draft.

Jerry will be outbid. And, Cowboys offense will be worse next season as we no longer have the dynamic duo.

Bah hum bug.

You could also draft a solid one tech with the second round pick and a nickel cornerback with the third. You can also sign Pickens long term and be 7-9-1 again.
So we want to draft a 1-tech despite having traded for a 1-tech last year? And get rid of our All-Pro receiver in the process? And we could find a nickel corner or end up with three years of Nashon Wright again. Maybe we get lucky and hit on a Jourdan Lewis instead, but it's hit and miss.

As they say, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Have to ask......shouldn't we stay with a player proving worth vs a player or two hoping for worth? Just sayin'. We have the draft and FA coming.
The Cowboys appear to want to keep him but you need to build the defense up from the bottom. I don’t want to be the Bengals of the last three seasons. Last season the Cowboys looked just like Burrow and company.

Clark is a JAG on the wrong side of 30. Our defensive tackles have been so bad that we overrate average players. Anyway the draft is always a crap shoot but turning the Cowboys into the Bengals is not exactly the way to go either. My goal is to win a Super Bowl and having a top flight receiving core along with a trash defense won’t cut it.

But a Pickens deal can't change that alone or solely. I wouldn't be so fast to declare a Pickens Trade Deal as a savior...This isn't a "Herschal Walker Hoodwink" on the horizon.....and that deal took a couple of years to bring change with talent. In the Front Office we trust now?

If I see Flournoy as WR2 on opening day......I'll have a Tolbert Flashback.

I think the Cowboys need to be more about team building. We already have a deva receiver we don’t need two.

....then production takes a backseat if guess. What's the reason for dismissing Pickens' production. I'm a bit confused. A non-diva WR was ran out of town before.....Cooper. What are we doing?

Seems like some people forgot our defense sucked last year and defense wins championships.

1st and a 3rd does it for me.

I also have to add that while I loved what Pickens did last year, he has also been known as a ticking time bomb.

Pickens wants to be in Dallas so David will bring the offer back to them. If a team is willing to pay more then the Cowboys want to give for Pickens the Cowboys will attempt to make some type a trade. A second, 3rd, and 5th would be a good trade in my opinion.
Jerry isn’t trading Pickens for a 2nd, 3rd and 5th

I want to keep Pickens. Badly. But if the Raiders offer that (picks 36 and 67) it would be VERY hard to say no.

12, 20, 36, and 67??? Yeah those 4 picks plus FA could transform the defense instantly.
Imagine if they manage to move down a little bit from both 12 and 20 and then have two 1sts as well as multiple 2nd and 3rd round picks.

I know it's all speculation but trading Pickens AND moving down twice in the first round could leave the Cowboys with six picks in the top 100. That would be incredible.

Clark is a solid NT at a position where players usually can remain solid into their mid 30s.

I don't believe having a top-flight receiving corps and a strong defense have to be mutually exclusive. I think our fans have come to expect that because of how the Joneses do business.

Totally different. We got talented player and picks. Top picks
Clark is average and our defense got worse. Stop it. Top picks? We gave the Jets are best pick next season. We literally have to cheer for the Packers next season.

Please don’t sign him to a hefty contract. He is a diva.
