Run the dang ball more Cowboys and watch what happens. It will cover a multitude of sins and give your defense a breather.

Let me get this straight---they thought 56 yards was "close to" Bailey's range? Did I read that right?

Well he did have the distance, unless me and you were watching two completely different games. I might not agree with the play calling there, but Bailey definitely had enough leg to get it there, he just pulled it.

If accuracy isn't an issue, I might be able to kick a ball 56 yards.

1. He had the distance.
2. He displayed that he had the distance in warmups.
3. He had the wind behind him.
4. He didn't miss by much.
5. You may be able to kick a ball 56 yards - downhill on concrete, including the roll.

It was certainly worth a try in certian game situations, just not when we did it.

Well in your original post you acted as if 56 yards with the wind is out of reach for Bailey's range, and that's completely wrong. The kick was within Bailey's range, he just missed it.

Range - "the distance within which something can be reached or perceived."

The "range" wasn't the issue, and yes it was "close to" Bailey's range.

I understand range to mean the distance at which there is a reasonable chance of making the kick. Garret said it was "close to" this, not that it was "within it." Which one is it? If its the less restrictive definition that you cite, then the decision to kick it is even more suspect.

Unless you don't think that distance doesn't affect accuracy, which seems silly.

Who cares what Garret said? Did you watch the kick at all? Bailey had enough leg power to make the kick, he just slightly pulled it. I've already said I don't necessarily agree with the play calling, but I don't see how you can question if Bailey had the range when it was very obvious.

You are assuming the distance of the kick has no affect on his accuracy, which is faulty logic. Kickers can knock the ball 70 yards or more on a kick-off, that doesn't mean their range for FGs is 70 yards.

Not into second guessing but when they lied up for the 56 yarder I felt punting it and trying to pin SD inside the 15 would have been the better option. I think Bailey is capable of hitting it but odds are not great at that distance.

You said RANGE. Range isn't about accuracy, it's the furthest distance he can kick a field goal. I think you've misunderstood the definition of range because accuracy plays no role in it.

I don't have a problem with Garrett taking a chance, but I would rather he had kept the offense on to try for a 1st down than the FG.

LOL His range has been established @ 53 yards until proven otherwise. 56 yards is still out of his range.

Once again, only if you think distance is not related to accuracy. I have no problems with them trying a 56 yard FG. Clearly, Bailey can hit a 56 yarder at times. But it is also at the very limit of what he can be expected to make with relative confidence. Therefore, you don't try a 56 yarder in that game situation. You try it at the end of the half or the game or if you absolutely must have 3 points (you are down 9, need two scores late in the fourth, etc.) Bone headed call and then Garrett comes out and says that the kick was "close to his range," making him look even more inept. What does that even mean? Was it in his range or not? If not, why in the world are trying that kick in that game situation?

Then Garrett was saying: "I know that he can kick a football that far but I don't know if he will get it anywhere near the uprights"...."let's go for it"

Never said I agreed with the play calling, but it was obvious range wasn't the issue.
