Bosa would have been a top 3 pick last year if he could have came out as a 19 yr old. I hope like hell we draft him, Ramsey or trade back. If we can't get either one of them trade back and get two extra picks. I'll trade back for someone's 1,2&3 round picks. We need two early lineman

I love how people are using the fact that his father and uncle played in the NFL, but werent very good against him. So, by that line of thinking, all these kids who have never had a family member in the NFL are going to be total scrubs.

Easily the dumbest argument against a player.

Dell Curry was a middling NBA player but never great. Stephen Curry is the best player in the game hands down right now.

It's absolutely not a dumb argument at all. If you don't believe in bloodlines and how it translates to athletes, that's your business.

Bosa in college had a lot of similar traits to his father - power player, high effort guy. Thing was, when his father then faced better athletes and competition, he was shown to be a stiff. Same thing for his uncle.

Now, I think that Joey is better than his old man, largely because of his hand work as a player. It also wouldn't take much to be better than his old man, because his old man couldn't play a lick in the NFL. That being said, I think Bosa looks to be, as I said earlier, a workmanlike type player, and not a star. I don't think he's a difference maker. At #4, you should expect to get a star and a difference maker.

Joey Bosa isn't that guy.

Does the guy shows up on tape? If the answer is yes then pick him. I'd go back to the tape to evaluate all these guys. Having said that, do we like a QB enough in the 2nd or 3rd round to afford to pass on either Goff or Wentz?

I think they'll be dumb enough to take one in the 2nd or 3rd. I wouldn't take Cook or Hackenberg in the 2nd at 34, but think they'll be gone before the 3rd. And I wouldn't take any of the other QB's, Dak, Cardale, etc in the 3rd. Far too many better options in those two rounds but I think we'll end up taking one of these subpar QB's on day two anyway.

My biggest problem with Bosa, besides his personality, is I don't see the hustle. I see that he has talent and can be an impactful player. But I see him jogging around a lot and taking it easy. Maybe he coasted last year, I don't know. But I certainly don't see the hustle that others see

I think the main issue some have is with picking him at #4 and relative to other draft classes people are expecting elite or premium edge rushers with respect to picking a DE at that spot.

The problem appears to be with respect to this particular draft class, Bosa is the most complete DE prospect but also lacks elite edge rush ability.

Exactly. You don't take players like that at 4.

I like the trading down idea, but it takes two to tango. Who is moving up? Do you only move down in round one? Why not rounds two and three and get more players into camp and let competition take over...make sure that no one is safe...even the offensive line...make them prove it. We need players that are afraid...none of them are THAT good that they can't and won't be replaced.

Would seemingly be from when the majority of the staff went to OSU to work out multiple potential picks...to include: Bosa, Elliott, Apple, Jones, Miller, Washington, etc.

tunsil a non starter? I don't think you realize how nfl ready this kid is. He would push free out day 1. He would start at right tackle day 1

I realize he is a very good player. My point is you can't spend every first rounder on olineman and expect to win championships. You need players at other positions.

Imagine having to keep them all together in five years, half the cap would go to one unit. The oline is plenty good enough now as is, I don't think adding another first rounder moves the needle all that much.

I will tell you this, they way he tilts his head on the strike, that's not a good thing. A good OL will take that lean and use it against him. He will end up in the stands if he continues to do that. He's going to be off balance and it won't take much to use that against him. JMO

Would agree. Being off balance is a recipe to get rag-dolled or end up on the ground. That said, I think part of it is these prospects 'going overboard' so to speak...in an effort to illustrate their hustle, hand punch, etc. He did the same when slipping on a bag drill during the combine. Bosa is known for his frame & strength for his age, hand use, his motor, some ability to play through double-teams, and somewhat his technique. Obviously he's not known for bending the edge or elite speed. That said, aside from his 40 time...I thought he tested pretty well at the combine.

How else are you supposed to load up on a tackling dummy if you don't get your whole body involved? Gotta hit it as hard as you can. People get impressed by it.

I think it was Tiny Jim suggesting he was 'the Zack Martin of the defensive line' that sort of turned me around on him. We'll see if it happens, but I wouldn't hate it if he's the pick by default. I still want a QB instead, though.

If Ramsey and Bosa were available and they took Bosa i'd be pretty upset.

If Ramsey is gone...well...you could do worse than the number 1 prospect on a lot of boards and number 1 defensive lineman.

And if the Cowboys have had a pattern drafting over the last few years...it's that they like to take the number 1 prospect at different positions.

Think he could create more havoc if they slid him inside or had him stunt. If they do take him, which I would rather have someone else, I hope he commands enough attention with double or triple teams that at the very least it opens up some things for others.

Might that be a better job for Buckner...demanding multiple blockers?

Watched a lot of Bosa last night. Still don't like him, but at least like him a little better. Same with Buckner. Bosa is better right now, but Buckner's potential is through the roof.

Also, 43 on Ohio St., Lee I think, really stands out. That guy is fast and makes plays.

Strengths
Has an NFL-ready frame. Good muscular definition and flexibility to go along with a confident, competitive attitude. Solid upfield burst off the snap. Has booming power in his hands. Uses arm extension and forward lean as his primary weapon. Generates speed-to-power bullrush and plays off of that with a punch and pull technique that pulls tackles off-balance. Focuses pass rush attack on outside shoulder of tackle using forward lean and aggressive hand play. Active hands can completely wipe out a tackle’s weak outside hand allowing him to cave-in the edge. Usually gets hands on defender first. Able to stack and slide along line of scrimmage in pursuit of ball-carrier. Strong core and able to rag doll tight ends who aren’t committed to the fight. Adequate closing burst to the ball. Looks fluid and nimble when dropping into space. Has the talent and traits to be used more aggressively than he was at Ohio State. Grew as a run defender this season. Has forced five fumbles over the last two years. Football is in his blood with a father who was drafted by Dolphins in first round of 1987 draft and an uncle who played at Ohio State in the mid-80s. Motor will never be a problem.

When I read the last sentence I thought that is exactly the kind of guy Marinelli loves. If Rod is sold on Bosa, so am I. If he gives us 30 pressures and 8-10 sacks a year for 8-10 years that's solid. I think that's what Bennett did with the Seahawks the year they won the super bowl. Jimmy took Russell Maryland with the first overall pick in 91 and he turned into a solid rotational guy and we still won three Super Bowls after that.

No, not my intention at all. Would be happy with Goff at 4 too; just think Wentz is the better of the two and trading up for him would be the only way to secure him, etc. If Ramsey is there @ 4, it would be a hard decision admittedly. I would go with Goff.

If you believe Goff is worth the No. 4 pick, then I don't blame you for wanting to take him. My belief is that the ceiling for Goff is not as high as the ceiling for Lynch. It's possible even that Cook will turn out better than both when some work is done on his teaching him to reset his feet when he has to move out of the pocket.

Wentz appears to be the best QB of the bunch, but even with him I'm not sure how much better he is as a prospect than Lynch. I do know his stock really shot up after the season. I'm not really sure what that says about him.

Bosa was under greater scrutiny because he played so well the previous year and was considered a top draft prospect then. That scrutiny also brought him more attention from opposing teams and still he's considered either the top prospect in this draft or among the top.

My concern is we're overrating the QBs because we have a need to find Romo's replacement. Is there an Andrew Luck in the bunch, or is it more like the next three QBs taken in the first round that year: Griffin, Tannehill and Weeden? If the latter is the case, then we might be better off taking the Brock Osweiler equivalent in the second round or the Russell Wilson equivalent in the third.

I do not believe that Bosa will fail as a pick. At worst, he might only be a solid starter at left end during his career. I cannot say the same about these QBs. I believe Wentz definitely has the tools and head to succeed, but there have been other QBs who seemed to have those things who failed.

As I've said, I'm not going to be upset if Wentz is there and Dallas takes him, because if the team has rated him worthy of the pick then I want them to trust their scouts/board. Same with Goff. I'm also not going to be upset if their scouts/board says neither is worthy of the No. 4 pick and they take Bosa or Ramsey instead.

This is an interesting draft because every player in the top 10 has question marks. Every name that is discussed there's many who say they don't like him at #4. Whether it's the QB's or Bosa, Ramsey, Jack, Buckner, Elliot, etc. About the only consensus sure fire prospect is Tunsil, but he's expected to be gone when we pick and we probably wouldn't take another OL even if he were available.

While I do think the QB's may be overvalued due to their position and our need, I am leaning that way since there isn't any surefire prospects we would likely miss out on if we do go QB. But the obvious downside is there is a greater bust factor with the QB's. Guys like Bosa, Ramsey, Buckner and Jack may not become perennial all-pros but everyone of them should end up being at least longterm solid players.

So like others have said, if we have a franchise designation on one of both QBs then we should take him if available. But if we don't deem either franchise caliber, then we should trust that and go with the best of the rest. I just hope if we do that we don't then take a subpar QB on day two bypassing much better players. If that's going to be the case then Id definitely prefer QB in the first.

Anybody else find themselves coming around on Bosa? The more I read, the more I feel this guy is somehow getting underrated. It doesn't seem to be hurting his public draft projections, but he's universally listed as a top-5 player and he's pretty much the guy nobody seems to want. The more it goes on, the more it gets me thinking he's a value player who's not getting respect because he lacks flash in terms of sack numbers. It's kind of got me rooting for him, Ohio State or no.

It will be Bosa unless they move the pick. He's a solid, not really spectacular, but solid pick. Strong side DE starter for 8-10 years. Fills a need!

Joey Bosa isn't that guy.

And then you look at his 3 cone and shuttle scores which are what actually correlate to DE success and you see that he is a plus athlete too. 28 presses with 34" arms is excellent too.

You must be one those people that also think he won't grow anymore despite not being 21 yet.
