Why would he factor in Amari?

Did we draft Amari???
Not directly but we spent this years No. one on him, so is a big factor in how you view our draft.
In addition we don’t have to project how he’ll do in the NFL as we already have the evidence.

Brugler ranked our draft last season in the top 5 and we didn't get past the divisional, so I guess we might as well throw the towel in?

31. Dallas Cowboys
2019 draft class
2 58 DT Trysten Hill
3 90 OG/C Connor McGovern
4 128 RB Tony Pollard
5 158 CB Michael Jackson Sr.
5 165 EDGE Joe Jackson
6 213 SS Donovan Wilson
7 218 RB Mike Weber
7 241 EDGE Jalen Jelks
Favorite pick: Connor McGovern, OG/C, Penn State
The Cowboys drafted a higher-rated player in the third round than the second round. McGovern has experience at center and guard and gives the Cowboys a nasty run blocker with upside as a pass protector. His versatility will give the Cowboys options up front in the future, like possibly moving Connor Williams outside to tackle.
Questionable pick: Trysten Hill, DT, UCF
Without a first-round pick, the Cowboys weren’t going to be high on this list, but it is understandable why many fans aren’t excited about Hill, their top pick in the draft. He butted heads with coaches (and teammates) at UCF and needs time to develop. This pick felt like a reach because of their desire to land a high-upside three-technique in a draft with limited options at that position.
Day 3 pick who could surprise: Michael Jackson Sr., CB, Miami (Fla.)
Jackson was thought to be a top-100 pick over the summer, but he didn’t quite have the senior year many expected with only six passes defended and zero interceptions. But the size/speed traits are worth betting on in the fifth round, and defensive assistant Kris Richard has a track record of developing long, speedy corners into quality contributors.

Brugler did specify that he didn't include trade acquisitions in the evaluation. So Amari Cooper was excluded, which puts the Dallas draft at a bit of a disadvantage. I understand the thinking there, but it has its problems (and I have a lot of respect for Brugler). if Dallas had traded a player to acquire a first round choice, that choice would have been included in the evaluation. So it seems logical to apply the same standard to picks traded for players. That said, I have Brugler's guide, and he is being true to his rankings. Hill was rated well below the spot he was taken. Brugler had McGovern graded higher than Hill. Of course, Brugler could be wrong.

And why would they rank high? The ONLY value pick they got was McGovern.

On paper, this is a horrid draft.

There it is.

Criticize this team, get called an idiot. If he gave us an A, would he still be an idiot???
Actually, anyone who grades a draft the day after is an idiot as well as anyone who takes the grade seriously one way or the other.

Fish said the Cowboys had McGovern graded higher than Hill. Brandt had McGovern as the 31st ranked player in the draft.

Certainly makes it clear why they took McGovern rather than force a pick at another position.

So on the flipside, if Cooper was a bust and sucked here, our picks should get dinged no matter how well we did because of a trade that happened 6 months earlier???

Meh, we all pick the analysis that suits our attitude about the team. You pick a negative, another fan a positive. So far I would say it's about even on the positive and negative side. That's to be expected because none have played a snap in the NFL. in other words he don't know, you don't know and I don't know.

Of course as we spent this years first round on him.
The only real difference is we already know how well he plays in the NFL.
Everyone else has to wait.

Like to explain why it doesn’t work like that?
Did we or did we not spend THIS YEARS first round pick on the already proven Cooper???
Because we didnt draft him. Simple.

Also, we have to pay Amari probably somewhere between $16-18m a season, whereas if we drafted a player in the first round, the cost would be substantially less.

And being that Amari was already proven on this level destroys the notion that he should be included in this draft’s grade. The draft process is about evaluating and projecting how well a player will play at the next level and acquiring talent. In fact, Amari Cooper had nothing to do with our draft process at ALL.

No interview/pre draft visit
No combine
No board ranking
No hoping he falls to our pick
