From Pro Football Focus

1. Dallas Cowboys (1st)
Pass-blocking rank: 1st

Run-blocking rank: 1st

Penalties rank: 32nd

Stud: With studs at three spots on the line, it was hard picking a No. 1 guy. But left tackle Tyron Smith, our second-ranked lineman on the year, is that guy, with a tremendous season that has become the norm for him.

Dud: He was far from disappointing, but rookie La’el Collins was the weakest link on this line, simply by not being as good as the other guys on it.

Summary: That’s two years in a row atop our rankings for the Cowboys, who have reaped the rewards on their heavy investment in talent with first-round picks. All three of their former top picks graded in the top three at their respective positions, and even the less-heralded members were hardly poor.

The Cowboys are our top offensive line for the second year in a row, and the truth is, it wasn’t even close.

Because it WAS this line, be amazing to see what a Jammal Charles or a Lesean McCoy could do running through some of those holes.

Murray averaged 4.7 yards behind this line last year and some said he was too good to let leave. And he did that with Romo having the best year of his life and Bryant having a great season.

McFadden averaged 4.6 yards behind this line last year. He did that with Romo being out a large chunk of the season and Bryant being a shell of himself due to a foot injury. And apparently, that's not good enough.

The reality isn't that McFadden isn't good enough. He is. He's likely as good as Murray, or just a tick below. The problem is he's a big injury risk still.

Give it a couple posts and someone will come bashing the only good thing we have going on with this team.

Even Doug Free had a very solid season as the year progressed.

What?????:omg:

Next thing you know someone will say Escobar and Witten can block. CYA season is in full swing to save their jobs for next year.....

How can puff pieces like this continue to exist that try and sell this turd of a team?

Puff piece?

Pro Football Focus bases their rankings on....math.

Fact is, we turned a running back that was widely considered a bust into a pro bowl caliber back to go along with giving up the least amount of hurries in the NFL.

Doug Free was pretty bad early in the season but seemingly, I don't recall cursing him once as the season progressed. The math backs that up.

I agree. Biggest differences were 1) we didn't commit to the run as much as we did last year, and 2) it took us 4-5 games to get our RB situation figured out. Even Randle looked pretty good. I couldn't understand why we weren't running the ball early in the season when Romo was playing. It was frustrating. It took not having a QB to start to run.

But there's a few on here that said Tyron Smith is overrated because of the sacks he gave up this year.

I'm guessing, like most suspected, most of Smith's sacks came due to the QB holding onto the ball too long.

Ummm. Witten is one of the best blockers for his position in the NFL. What are you talking about?

McFadden only had one game, when he took the bulk of the carries, where he averaged over 5 YPC before week 14. His performance from week 14 to week 17 really upped his YPC.

His season was nowhere near the season Murray had. McFadden was incredibly hot and cold until that small stretch of strong performances at the end of this season.

Romo was probably the better option at the time, because the OL had a ton of injuries in the preseason and didn't have any time playing together as a unit. That was when Bernardeau was getting a lot of snaps -- 61 of them in those first two games. After that, he only had 1 snap in the next 13 games.

We averaged 3.4 ypc in those first two games, and 4.8 the rest of the season.
