The No. 4 overall pick had tweaked his hamstring two weeks ago. The Cowboys planned to take it slowly with their stud rookie runner.

Elliott took part in some walk-throughs, but after missing the team's first preseason game, getting him back on the practice field in pads is a positive step.

After practice, Elliott told reporters he expects to back on the field next week "full speed."

"I've never had a hamstring problem before, so this my first one," Elliott said. "I didn't feel it pop or pull or anything. I just felt it strain, kind of tighten up and that's why I decided to slow it down because it's really not worth it going out there and hurting it even more."

Likely held out Friday, right? I didn't read the article.

Bill Polien talked about this on Siruis a little while back. basically said no college kids are in "football shape" once their season ends and they start prepping for the draft.

Said OTA's and mini-camps after the draft, do nothing to get them in shape. Takes about a month into full training camp before most are where they need to be. CBA and practice schedule really affected this area.

I heard this morning from Mike Fisher on The Fan that he won't play Friday against Miami. Maybe against Seattle.

give him a couple of snaps 3rd and 4th games just so he can get hit some. Have him ready for the Giants.

I get that and agree with that as well...however...I just don't want to say it...save this type of game when it matters...i will be a nervous fan until those starters come out of that game
I get it about injuries but neither team will be going all out if you well like a regular season game. It's preseason.

I can understand you worries though

Free can handle Bennett. Unless we take our starters on OL out and put in that "great" 2nd team OL

We are talking about our cowboys you know...i have sat there in utter amazement to many times since the last SB run...if the current regime holds true most starters haven't even lasted the entire half before being pulled while most other teams continue rolling out their starters into the 3rd quarter...so as you said i am sure we will be fine
