There will come a time when Smith has a huge cap number and people will be like "he's not worth his cap hit" ignoring the repeated small cap hits he's had over the years due to restructures.

It may seem far-fetched...but it's going to happen.

The beauty of having Offensive lineman that were premium picks, premium players with lonnnnng term contracts that can be restructured.

Tyrons' back worries me a little but this is the right move. Martin will be done the same way in future years.

Cowboys create cap room by restructuring contracts

Posted by Darin Gantt on February 20, 2017, 4:12 PM EST

The Cowboys’ annual game of kick the can has begun in earnest.

According to Todd Archer of ESPN.com, the Cowboys have freed up $17.3 million in short-term cap space by restructuring the contracts of left tackle Tyron Smith and center Travis Frederick.

Such moves are standard operating procedure in Dallas, where they’re always pushing money into future years for present relief. They do it by turning base salary into bonuses, allowing them to prorate the hit over future years.

The moves would have them under the suggested salary cap of $168 million.

Agreed, when he is in year seven of his eight year contract everyone will call it a head scratcher.

It doesn't worry me too much. He's still young enough to recover. I believe Chaz Green's unreliability made him come back too soon. The rest he got at the end of the season helped, I doubt he goes to the pro bowl if he was having any back issues.

Cowboys need to trade TSmith like the Kings did with Cousins. Get zip in return for an all pro. lol.

More like bracing for the cap hit when we cut Romo. I hate to say it...but I think it's coming. Romo woud be the perfect back up if he just realized his heyday was over.

37 year old QB w/ multiple injures...hanging on to get one last chance for a ring. Sound familiar?

Well he'll have another season or maybe 2 seasons of a heyday with another team.

Peyton Manning?

At least that's what he's hoping.

or Warner with the Cards.
Lotsa guys have done this. Odds against you because being 2 of 32 to make Super Bowl is always long odds.

But Romo was playing very high level football not long ago. I wouldn't count him out and wouldn't consider him a back up to anyone.
He starts or retires.
