First it was Julius Jones in 2004 with 150 yards and two TDs against Chicago, followed by a spectacular 198 yards and three TDs against Seattle. He also rushed for 1,000 yards in 2006, including a 77-yard TD against the Saints. But by the 2008 season he was gone.

Then it was Marion Barber, who led the NFC with 14 rushing touchdowns in 2006 and made the Pro Bowl the following season. He also scored three crucial TDs against Detroit in a 2007 game. He was one of the hardest-hitting running backs in the league. But by the 2011 season, he was gone.

Then it was Felix Jones in 2008, who had a spectacular rookie season that was abruptly cut short by injury. In his career, he scored touchdowns of 73, 71, 49, 60, 33 and 46 yards as a Cowboy, along with a 98-yard kickoff return TD and non-scoring rushes of 56, 40 and 40 yards against the Giants, Panthers and Commanders, respectively. In 2009, he set a Cowboys franchise record with a 5.9 yards per carry average and rushed for 148 yards in a playoff win over Philadelphia. But by the 2013 season he was gone.

Then it was Tashard Choice in 2008, who gained 166 all-purpose yards against the Steelers, the NFL's best rushing defense at the time, scored a 38-yard TD against the Giants the following week, and played well in some other games. He looked like a promising RB for a few years. But by the middle of the 2011 season he was gone.

Now it's DeMarco Murray with a franchise-record 253 rushing yards in a game, against the Rams, including a 91-yard TD. He became a vital part of the Cowboys' offense. He also rushed for over 1,000 yards last season and made the Pro Bowl. But will his production as a Cowboys RB abruptly start to decline, too?

Not outside the realm of possibility. There are few running backs nowadays that consistently produce at a high level.

Unlike Barber and Felix, Murray is a well rounded every down back. And I think he's much more talented than Julius was. Murray's only real problems have been health and a bad O-line before last season. The three guys you mentioned all had solid O-lines.

It seems like Choice was never trusted after that drop/fumble against the Skins.

You mean the ridiculous play that should have never been called by JG? Any OC with a half a brain would have called a kneel down in that situation.
