Cowboys Sean Lee looking to take the next step

After making his first Pro Bowl in 2015, Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee is looking to take his game to another level.

Dallas Cowboys fans have known how good linebacker Sean Lee has been for a long time. Unfortunately, injuries robbed the rest of the football world from knowing it as well.

Now, the recently-turned 30-year old is looking to build off his first Pro Bowl season in Dallas. Can Lee take his game to another level in 2016? He’s goal is to do just that

“Personally I expect more out of myself this year,” Lee told ESPN.com. “It was a frustrating year, going 4-12, we’ve got to be able to find a way to get wins in the fourth quarter, causing more turnovers. That’s something we need to do. We have to do. I’m ready to go physically. I felt good practicing. Hopefully I can take the next step within this defense.”

Lee recorded a career-high 128 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, five pass defends and had one interception in 14 games last season. It was a great comeback for the veteran linebacker, who missed the entire 2014 regular season due to an ACL injury he suffered early on during OTA’s.

In 2013, Lee was on pace for a Pro Bowl season recording 99 tackles, six pass defends, four interceptions and a defensive touchdown. But a hamstring injury limited him to just 11 games that season, robbing him of those accolades.

Due to various injuries, Lee has only played 60 games of the possible 96 contests during his six-year career in Dallas. Now on the other side of 30, the veteran linebacker is hoping to turn the narrative of his career around to be remembered, not for his injuries, but as one of the greatest Cowboys ever to wear The Star on his helmet.

If he's stay healthy, he's the only pro bowler we have on defense. Cerebral and disciplined player.
Just need to stay healthy. We could use a couple more defensive players like Lee ( minus the injuries ).

Love to hear he is working to make the next step loved to see him make the Randy White type impact. I know they played different positions in talking the same type of difference maker

Believe it when I see it ...... guy is a phenomenal talent but I wont believe his body will let him play close to 16 games till he does for a few years in a row.

I disagree. This is the exact soft approach that Garrett, who basically promised TC would be tougher than Wade Philips, has taken. Romo Wednesdays? Are you kidding me? The QB doesn't take hits in practice. Oh, you have a boo-boo? Sit out; we don't want to take a chance. 4th and 3 on the 20 yard line while down 20 points? (Carolina game last season)...bring in the FG unit. We don't want to take a chance. You think Belichick does that? Hell no.

They should just keep him out of training camp until the season starts.

Here's hoping Sean Lee achieves the acclaim he so richly deserves this upcoming season.

To put it quite simply, he has always given too much of himself not to. Good luck, Sean.

Nah belichick goes for It in 4th down at mid field and loses to Peyton manning because of it. Quit your bellyaching or go coach your own team if you know so much.

Remind me, how many Super Bowl rings does he have? Exactly.

4. Remind me what that had to do with training camp? Exactly
I've already made the comparison, but since you obviously don't have reading comprehension skills, I'll say it again. Garrett is too soft because he is afraid to take risks. He lets Romo have every Wednesday off, because he's afraid he'll get hurt, despite the fact the QB doesn't take hits in practice. That same mentality is the reason Garrett alone has lost us games. I then asked, "do you think Belichick does that", and said No. You then cherry-picked one time where a risk he took didn't work, which doesn't make your argument valid because he has won 4 Super Bowls. Remind me, how many playoff wins does Garrett have?

Romo doesn't get Wednesdays off because we're afraid of him getting hurt. That fact that your original premise is false/pulled out of your behind makes the rest of the mindless chatter invalid.

Although I disagree with about 95% of Garrett's decisions and feel he is a horrible head coach. Romo Wednesday's are not a bad idea. At this point in their career's, vet's like Romo and Lee are not going to get any better, they are at their respective peaks and lucky for us they are elite. A warm Romo can probably step on a football field this Sunday and throw for 250+ and 3 TD's. Rookies need the reps, depth around players like Romo and Lee need the practice.

In all honesty, if our defense is playing solid I would hope Garrett had the intelligence of cutting down Lee's defensive snaps around mid-season to ensure a healthy playoff push. That is the stuff real coaches are made of, look at Greg Popavich for example. Knowing Garrett, Lee will be in on blowout games where the opposing offense has their 3rd string RB in looking to make a name for himself by chopblocking passrushers and takes out Lee's knee.

Sean Lee sheds blocks like no other LB I've seen. He also has very sticky hands and arms when it comes to tackles and interceptions. Man if he can stay healthy our defense is 20% better than without him. Please stay healthy Mr. Lee!

Lolol I'm trying to tell you man, I've never felt so little until I started hanging around NFL players, and I'm not a little guy by any means.

There is no next level for Lee to go to. He's there.

As always, health - not his physical abilities or preparation - will dictate his performance.
