Looks like the guy who can play the pass and blitz, the otto lb?

What is with this "new" position, created by a team who had a very high pick in the 1st round? You can not just create some new position in this day and age, in the NFL and think it will be successful.

There are still a couple of DT's available that can come in and start on day 1.

Michael Bennett and Tyeler Davison.

Then we had no business putting ourselves into that position of paranoia. We stockpiled veteran free agent LBers when they were not certain about McClain. And now they added another.

Sounds like Chaz Green was a Weems replacement and this player is Kyle Wilber replacement.

Sorry, that is poor team building when you have other areas of the roster in worse shape, without even quality starters in place.

Personally I think you are right but I think the team has gone a little conservative in its personnel in the later rounds. I think that Green will be the starter when Free's contract is up and I think picking him now gives them the opportunity to polish him up and make him more game ready instead of drafting him and throwing him to the wolves. Same thing with Wilson, it allows them to gauge and groom a replacement for McClain/Lee for a year. Like I said the later picks usually will require a little time of seasoning but can be good contributor as a rookie.

He seems to be a little more suited to the WLB. A backup to Lee but could develop into a starter if Lee can't shake the injury bug and the Cowboys decide to move on next year.

Personally for me it's more of the fact we haven't done anything to address what got us to the playoffs from last season. I was fine with letting DeMarco walking because I thought we'd actually address finding his replacement in a RB heavy draft but considering we've completely ignored the position now and have let everyone slip away I'm a bit perplexed that our team seems to be content with simply adding Run DMC and expecting him to remain healthy all season. As another poster commented it seems pretty arrogant and we're playing with fire.

What some call arrogance, I like to call confidence. I'll let the brain trust do their job. Can't complain too much.

This is not a defensive priority choice. This is a ST priority choice .

If this was so necessary, why did we sign Brinkley and Gachkar to decent money deals?

Because we were not sure about McClain making up his mind?

They also signed Livings and Bernadeau to decent sized deals, a few years back.

Extremelt short sighted. Our LBers are quality, but are rentals based upon injury history and contract with the exception of AH, who surprised as a rookie big time but may have a limited ceiling. DW is an outstanding prospect and clearly ascending. This IS team building. Just because a rookie wont step in and start does not mean you risk a pick on someone you feel is no better than what is on your roster. I love Ajayi, but he's plummeting for a reason.

I think you are overvaluing Green by a good bit. This is not a "grooming league" mainly because coaches can't due to the CBA rules. Who you take right now, better be ready.

I like Green. He can play both tackle spots. He has good feet.

But I can tell you if there were an elite OT prospect staring us in the face next April, they forget about him and take that player unless he gets a lot of on field exposure somehow.

Same thing applies to Wilson. Beyond preseason they get zero time and opportunity.

So we are drafting special teams players with Ajayi and Jarrett available.

Pretty arrogant drafting.

They are basically saying what they have right now, on this roster, they are prepared to play a game with.

We didn't have a hole at LB with Durant, Wilbur and Carter gone? Lee's history with injuries not a concern?

They had designs on starters with those signings. These two were signed with the specific intent of insurance. Not those two.

We only have "holes" because our top talent can't stay healthy or are unreliable.

I am sorry, I have a problem drafting out of fear that the players I am entrusting to produce and that I am paying a lot of money to will never fulfill their obligations.

If that is the scenario I am in, I do not waste time with those players.

It is like you know your pipes will burst, but instead of attacking the real problem, you spend a lot of money on duct tape in case it does.

It is illogical on many levels.

Exactly. Although initially I didn't like the pick, I think it is solid one with what I read. Hopefully we can get one of these guys

They have Patmon, Jones, Claiborne, Carr and Scandrick........they seem good at corner IMO.

Yeah, and that's pretty much it. No other competition. And 2 of them are very likely to gone next year. Meanwhile we have about 3000 linebackers.

Not putting down the pick or player. But I think we have fewer numbers and less talent at CB, and there are a few good CBs left yet. Hope we can get another one before the draft is over.

Cause one of 10 rookie rbs would have set us over the top.

Not going to lie, no clue who the guy is, and anyone who claims to be an expert on Minnesota Football is just well... never mind.

Some of the earlier certainly could have contributed this season and for seasons to come. But you're pretty naive to think doing nothing but swapping Run DMC for DeMarco is the answer.

Fans before draft: "Yeah, the best strategy is to stick to our draft board and take the BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE."

Fans during/after draft: "WHY AREN'T WE DRAFTING FOR NEED!?!?"

This. Every single year.
