I second that

The motion has been put forth and seconded. The motion is amendable and debatable and will require a simple majority vote.

The motion stands as submitted with no amendments and no objections. The floor will now vote.

The motion has passed with a majority of "aye" in favor.

The result of the motion is that this is indeed a dumb thread.

healthy newman is a beast in the slot role, the best scandrick can hope for is to be T.News equal in that capacity.

Heck, if scandrick can play it consistently as well as aaron glenn did that would be a great thing.

I would start Jenkins at RCB over Scandrick and I will tell you why. Scandrick is more suited to the LCB role than he is the RCB role. We will play our top 3 CBs a lot this year. Starting is of little consequnce as all 3 will get plenty of playing time. When we go to our Nickel look Scandrick will be at LCB and Newman will slide to the slot.

IMO this is a silly thing to be worried about. Honestly who cares which one of them starts as long as they both play. I don't think there's any doubt both will play. None at all.

aaron glenn was a player in the slot role, we missed him the season after we cut him. Made some really crucial plays for us.

I find this thread funny from some poster. In several of the media reports where they talked to the coach they said Jenkins made a big jump this offseason.

Me I careless which one starts I am just glad we have two guys that can play

Ok back in the Jimmy days, do you think Jenkins would be starting ahead of Scandrick as the #2 CB? HECK no! Jimmy always sent the right messages to his players. One of those messages were that if you were simply better than someone at your position, you would play and start! Everyone on this board knows that Scandrick is a better player than Jenkins at this point in their careers. But why is Jenkins going to start again? Oh yeah, because we have no leadership and authority at the head coaching position and the GM/owner is most likely pushing for Jenkins to start because he was a "1st round pick." Ahh I miss the old days!!

Competition only makes you stronger. "You" can be seen as a team or personal view.

Scandrick is deserving of being in the same sentence as Jenkins and I, personally, am rooting for the most talented back at the NFL level to date (Scandrick) to win the job.

The most informative response I've seen in this thread since yesterday! I'm rooting for the most talented as well. If Scandrick ends up being a "little" bit better than Jenkins in training camp, I'm afraid the coaching staff will go with the 1st round pick. I hope I'm wrong, I just want the BEST players on the field the most.

Jenkins has more pure talent then again you are going off a few plays

Jenkins made an attempted play on a ball I never seen Newman even come close to playing

Jenkins was on his man saw the ball going over his head turned leaped back and high and almost got a finger tip on the ball that he should have had chance to even get close to.

Jenkins is crazy mad skills and the most Athletic CB on the roster. Now the question is can he put the entire thing together and become a Probowl CB.

What I see from a lot of posters is Sandrick had the one monster game and Jenkins missed a tackle badly so everyone has based all there assumptions of those two games.

Kind of like a lot of people did with the Mario, Bush and Vince debate after year one 3 years later Houston made the right decision Mario has gotten better every year and has turned in to there best player on defense while Vince and Bush have struggled and dropped off in their play.

May the best back win. That's all I have to say. Anyone can make highlights. Consistency is what I want to see. ;)

That's a fallacy though. Scandrick as consistent all year and rarely got beaten with playing the toughest position in the secondary. Imagine what he can do in the base D

Which will be determined by the coaches. I do not have a favorite in this race because I do not care if they are a 1st round pick or a 5th round pick. I just think people are over reacting on who did what last year based off two games last year ignoring the ups and downs booth rookies had.

All I do know is both have shown they have the talent to play in the NFL; what we have to see if they have the mindset and the desire to do both over the next several years. That is the question that has yet to be answer and will take this year and next to fully see the results. Through year 1 we have a double win lets hope it continues in the future for both CB's (I do not want another Derick Ross had the talent but was lazy and a knucklehead)

We don't know what is going on. One player can look better than another player for their role on the team. But sometimes a year of training, maturity can move players ahead of each other. Maybe Jenkins is much improved. Also what we see, the media sees and interprets is much different than what is really going on and what the coaches see.

Right now, we have 2 gifted players and atheletes, if they live up to their expectations, we win no matter who plays.

Newman doesn't move to the slot anymore, they gave it to Scandrick.

So how exactly is the #3 role the toughest position in the secondary? I would figure covering the opposing teams' #1 would be a heckuva lot harder to do.

I'm talking about covering the slot in the nickel defense, which Scandrick played very effectively.

For good reason. Scandrick brings an intangible to the CB position that we haven't had since Deion: ATTITUDE. Even Newman doesn't have a strong attitude when it comes to playing the CB position, and he's more of a finesse player. How many times do you remember Newman making a GREAT tackle? None. Scandrick plays with attitude and he needs to be on the field in the base defense

I haven't seen Newman make a great tackle, but he's always throwing his body in there

he's no Antoine Winfield though

I don't see the attitude you're talking about with Scandrick, he seems like a laid-back guy to me

How many GREAT tackles has Scandrick made?

BTW, tackling Steve Smith one-on-one in the open field with only six or so yards to go for a first down was pretty great if you ask me.

was that the tackle where he body-slammed him, causing Stevie to get ejected from the game?
