Cowboys should consider trading Pickens

Since Jerry refuses to buy top shelf free agents, they can simply use the money they would have spent on Parsons to sign Pickens

Pick can be signed and Jerry can still aquire the Sanborns and Clowneys of the league

I know people will read this and think I’m crazy, and this is not that Pickens isn’t playing incredibly well. It’s really that he’s playing too well and outpricing himself. With cowboys already paying CD his money, are you really going to pay 2 receivers 70 million dollars. Boys should sell high since they are not going anywhere anyway, they might be able to get a 2nd round pick from a contender.
Our defense is so bad, I would also consider what we can get for Aubrey. We can't afford the highest paid kicker.

Whatever we do we need to be decisive and put that plan into action immediately. Either we’re “in” for adding a few key pieces on D now or we’re sellers stockpiling picks for the future. Doing nothing is suicide.

If we’re sellers we’re moving guys like Pickens, Diggs, Ferguson, Smith and even Lamb if compensation is right. If we’re “in” for now then we fire Eberflus, add another run stuffing DT, LB and CB. Jerry is expecting Overshown and Revel to provide immediate help and that’s a fantasy. Coming off those injuries will take time and those guys won’t be near a 100% until next season. But knowing Jerry, and the fantasy world he lives in, he stands pat.

Funny, someone calling this the dumbest post of the day, clearly showing how out of touch with reality you are. If you think logically for a minute, the cowboys are going nowhere this season, you really think the way to try to become a better all around team is to have 2 receivers making close to 80 million per year when you have a historically bad defense. Also, if you read what I said, this has nothing to do with how good Pickens has been, in fact he’s been too good he’s out priced himself in Dallas.
Being cheap has not won a SB. Giving the worst GM in the league more picks to screw up has not won a SB. So what your point?

If GP wants top dollar than I want top value to let him leave. 1st rounder or he’s playing next year on the tag
The tag for him is estimated to be between $26 & $28 million. All of it hits the salary cap in 2026. No way to mitigate it. Pickens would probably be pleased with that. It’s not necessarily financially prudent for the Cowboys.

No one is trading anything for a guy who is a free agent in less than five months. And he’s having a great season, so far. I doubt his agent is ready to negotiate with a new team to facilitate a trade. He’s going to get $30+ million per season.

All players want “top dollar”, by the way.

Anyone who thought this team was going to be competitive was wearing rose colored glasses. We are in full rebuild mode no matter what spills out of the mouths of Jerral and Stephen.
Yep, this team was never a contender. Too many kool-aid drinkers.

Nah, I'm resigning him. You have a legit offence, but you cant fix the defense this year. DC is horrible.

Keep the offense together and spend draft resources and free agency fixing the Defense (not to mention that terrible Coordinator) . Then you have a few years of a window.

Chiefs or Bills will try and get Pickens after this season lol.
Yeah they can when we franchise tag him He can go he just gonna have to be bid on so the Cowboys get everything they can for him.. Not gonna hold him hostage but you put the tag on him let him know he can seek trades that's fine but I'm not just taking a 3rd round comp pick but I can get a 2nd round pick for him..

that's how the game works we gave up a third and a fifth you're going to get tagged so that way we can get a second back and now we won we get him for an entire year plus a second round pick... I think this dudes free and he's not free we will tag him and then we'll talk with his agent and him and say go seek a trade we're not going to hold you hostage and let's see who is willing to give up a second round tender or maybe we put a first round tender on him I don't know whatever it is he isn't walking I think some of you think he's just going to walk right out of here no that's not how it works we own his rights to his original deal..

Yes you put the franchise tag on them at the end of the year tell them to seek a trade I don't know if they're going to put a 1st round or a 2nd round tender on them that way you don't have to settle for a comp pick we will get something more for him than people think..

There's no way to keep him no team in this league has two starting #1 wide receivers making starter money...25M max for a wr2 or let him seek a trade..

And that's why you wouldn't be AGM in this league because you cannot pay 2 starting wide receivers all that money when you need to rebuild your entire defense..

You tag him with a first or second round tender and let him seek a trade if he decides he wants to stay for 25 million yeah but that's not why he came here he came here because Dallas would expose him and give him the best stepping stone to a number one wide receiver job and the money that comes with it.

They're flat out insane if you think we should pay him anything over 28 but I'm thinking 25 for a backup is exactly what is necessary to make sure you have money to build your defense..facts not emotions..

Why do so many Cowboy fans view the tag as a club, used to beat a good player into submission ?

This is a business. GP is an asset, acquired for an asset (a 3rd round pick). Why would we let him go for a 3rd round comp pick two years from now? We should absolutely use any leverage we have to i) retain the player or ii) leverage maximum return.

Geez, these threads are getting out of control. "Trade this player, trade that player". Trade, trade trade!! Woo hoo!!!
