Cowboys Should Study The New England Template

Last night was an absolute thrashing for Denver at the hands of the New England Patriots. A re-focused group, specifically on defense, New England out physicaled every 1-on-1 battle last night - whistle to whistle; resulting in a massive lop-sided victory against a more than worthy opponent at home.
Sound familiar?
This is the same Patriots team that got taken to the wood shed by Miami!
That was a confident Patriots team last night which is pretty amazing considering how DOA they were pronounced by everyone and their favorite NFL Analyst just weeks ago.
I think that this highlights 2 points that the Cowboys should pay attention to:

1.) The NFL is a week-to-week league. The cliché "Any Given Sunday..." reigns true.

2.) 1 week can pivot a direction of a team, re-charge that group with confidence, and redefine what the rest of the season means.

2 cents paid. Be gentle...

Denver hasn't been playing well for awhile now, had Cutler injured with a finger and their running back was fumbling the ball like crazy. There defense isn't good either.

The fact is, Denver is pretty much like Dallas. That is why they also got whipped by an average team.

Doctor32........buddy ole pal o mine..

we had the new england template.

Then the new england template up and left.

and everyone cheered. No more useless running the ball, no more trying to win T.O.P and dictate the game, finally calling those magic routes that make Terrell Owens walk on water etc etc...

now the sentiment here is We need a disciplined coach and we need to run the ball more!!!

Pats win because they play sound fundamental defense and they run the ball.

You are the only person keeping me somewhat positive about the future here and you are right any given sunday. I just think it starts with the players giving a darn. I dont think many do here.

Only templates I would be interested in are Pittsburgh and Tennessee who aren't allowing a lot of points.

Agreed. With the exception that the players don't care anymore.
This was the same team that ran wild and imposed their will in Lambeau on the Packers while playing physical hard-nosed D.
I believe that can return. My hope is that it happens Sunday versus the Bucs. I feel that the challenge is there and the opprtunity to re-direct the team presents itself now.

Exactly... While the Ravens got schooled by the Colts, there defense is pretty beastly...

man I hope so.

The thing that is different to me is that the team was playing on a high and winning and so they had some confidence.

Now they look like a beaten group, throw in they dont appear to be able to trust the secondary to do anything and we have a serious problem.

I can't remember it all but i'll give you a small gist of it.

he said

after getting whooped last week they felt like they had to make a statement last night

you can't replace Tom Brady but they still have a job to do and a season to be played

Even with Tom and others out they have to step up in other areas(running the ball, special teams, defense) and they believe in each other and believe they can do just that.

said regardless of injuries they are still a very good football team and they showed it last night.

thats just a few things he said. but you get the gist of it.

I believe some are missing the point altogether.
I am speaking to the fact New England - downtrodden pissed on team who gave up 38 to the Miami Wildcats, with 1 win and a no-talent backup QB have righted the ship by playing the defense that they're capable of playing and running the rock to set up a big play passing game - AGAIN all in one week.

This is the same Denver team who was hanging 30 on almost everyone they played.
I'm not talking X's and O's or coaches or motivational leaders.

I'm with you, Doc. All is not lost. I don't see this team going from 13-3 to 4-12 in one year, though many seem to believe that will be the case. You don't win that many games and a VERY tough division by having players who are complete gutless idiots.

(And you know what, no one wants to hear it, but the Rams aren't that terrible. They HATED Linehan and simply wouldn't play for him. But they're still close to the same team that many picked to go deep into the playoffs just a couple of years ago. So IMO their dismal record with Linehan isn't a true representation of their ability.)

What are you talking about? Denver has been struggling the last 2 games, getting beat by KC and Jacksonville. Against these 2, they didn't sniff 20 points.

What the Patriots did to Denver is like what the Rams did to the Cowboys. Both are average or sucky teams beating a bunch of whusses...

They took what the defense gave them too.

Several little dump off passes and/or bubble screens.

Imagine, running a bubble screen to Randy Moss just to get him the ball.

We have no imagination whatsoever in trying to get the ball to our playmakers.

I am no football offensive genius, but I would have created some way to get my stars involved after 2,3,4 games of watching my offense stall.

You want us to follow the blueprint of the New England Patriots dynasty that won 3 Super Bowls?

Brilliant!

Send this idea to Jerruh!

(only slightly kidding)

I agree regarding a 4-12 record, this team still should win 9 games this year. When Romo plays we are usually in every game, regardless of how poorly we play defensively. Our special teams being particularly awful this year doesn't help either.

When Romo, Felix, Roy Williams, Kosier, Spencer, Newman, and Watkins all are on the field again, then you can truly measure our gutless or poorly coached this team is.
