I saw him play quite a bit as well, even though I live in the Austin area. He's not an every down player, to be sure. He's extremely quick to get to the ball, and seems to live in the backfield on pass plays. His size is the biggest question mark, and he overcame a lot of that at Tech with solid technique. He's not big enough to play either DE spot, although he's closer to a weakside DE than anything else. Size-wize, he's more of a build for a OLB in a 3-4, but he never had to cover at Tech.

Kind of a man without a position when it comes to an NFL 4-3.

Dumervil is 5-11 and 260 with his pockets full of rocks. He's big enough to play WDE. His 40's aren't good but that's often a matter of learning how to run 40s.

So he's average for a DE. So he's no Demarcus Ware stat wise. Keep in mind though it's your burst off the ball which isn't all in the stats and more importantly can you bend and turn the corner.

The DL cutdown will be interesting this year. Right now, we've got a lot of options. But after the top four, they all look pretty mediocre or have low upside. Right now it looks like we have lots of options, but once we cut down to a 53 man roster, that cupboard might start to look pretty bare.

It might end up being a good thing if Spencer starts the year on PUP.

Curious to know who you're considering our top 4 DL, especially since you're saying that you think beyond that they all look mediocre with low upside?

Not including Spencer, I'm assuming you're considering Lawrence, Selvie, McClain, Melton as the top 4. Beyond that we have Crawford, Mincey, Bass, Gardner, Bishop, Okoye, Hayden, and a few others.

I know it's not an all star crew but I wouldn't call them all mediocre with low upside. I think we can come up with a good rotation at the very least.

Or maybe I'm being a little too optimistic in this case .

Melton, Crawford, McClain, Lawrence, and Selvie are all going to get significant snaps and I think they will be of reasonable quality esp the first two maybe three. I might be in the vast minority but Bass is going to play well if healthy. I expect to get some decent snaps out of another one or two episodically.
