Cowboys sign six for 2006 (and beyond for some)

On Tuesday, we signed six of our practice squad players to contracts, all for minimum salaries. Shannon Snell and J.R. Tolver got one-year deals with no signing bonuses. Matt Tarullo and Jamaica Rector got two-year deals with no signing bonuses. Tom Crowder got a two-year deal with an $8,830 bonus, and Keylon Kincade got a three-year deal with an $18,800 bonus.

We currently have 54 players signed for 2006. Jason Witten, Bradie James and Andre Gurode's contracts will void, although we have buybacks for Witten and James. And we'll probably cut Jacob Rogers, Brett Visintainer and Derek Pagel, who were on our injured reserve list this season.

I wonder what they have in mind for Crowder, what kind of contributions they think he can make over the next couple seasons. Surely you don't give a guy a bonus just to keep him on the practice squad?

Say Adam -- what's with the SBs? Are those to reward guys for not signing elsewhere?

Or a reward for spending a couple of years on the practice squad.

Any chance Rogers gets another shot? We're in desperate need of a tackle, he's already on the roster, we invested a 2nd round pick in him......

I'm glad we've locked up Crowder. He's an amazing ST player.

Still waiting for the first "we didn't cut Rogers so he's in our plans for next year" reply

It sure sounded like Rogers' bridge got burned when he decided to have surgery against the team's wishes. Jerry and Bill didn't sound happy about it.

I guess so. But we've kept him while he was unhealthy, I would hate for him to turn out like Jimmy Smith and end up a quality RT in the league for the next 10 years.

In an era of Salary Cap football, you have to cut your losses with players, and sometimes you might just be wrong. But you dont have 5 years to find out if you are right anymore

The whole Rogers experience with the Cowboys has just been a disaster. What a horrible pick.
