If he can get a bit of separation and work back to the ball on routes and once the play has broken down, he may play well with Romo.

Said he played some safety. They'll maybe try him out there. He's got the size, speed and hands. I wonder why he went un-drafted though.Hm. Intriguing.

I guess we'll see if the kid can find a way to play some Special team and contribute that way so that he can stick around. I don't see him getting a whole lot of WR oppurtunities in Dallas, baring injuries of course.

The two-year deal indicates to me that the Cowboys are looking at him, at least to some extent, as a developmental prospect that has outstanding measurables. Whether or not he's able to pan out as they might hope is yet to be determined. The size to speed ratio is a rare combination that merits a team's close inspection and a thorough trial period, IMHO. The Cowboys appear to be gambling he's someone who may be a late bloomer. Receivers, especially raw ones, routinely require 3 years to develop. He's already had two, so perhaps there's a chance that in another year or two they'll "hit the jackpot" with him.

Good size and speed, 2 year deal. good siging. May not be the answer for WR depth yet. But they do have many spots to fill. Need to have these type of players and see if they can make the team. Maybe the 5th or 6th guy this year, but who knows after that. How long was Austin on the roster before he got his chance, 2nd or 3rd year?

However, if a WR is there in the 4th or 5th round, can't pass them up either.

Kick the tires on him, let him try and make it in camp. We'll see how it goes.

It's the Laurent Robinson-effect. They weren't able to re-negotiate with him because of some rule in the CBA. So now, they're giving 2-yr deals to alot of these street free agents that have the most promise. Like Selvie, for example.

very good observation WG

From another article:
Byrd drew Larry Fitzgerald comparisons at minicamp last year, but went on to appear in just four games and catch one pass. "Not really, to be honest," Arians said when asked if Byrd has continued to make strides. "He had a couple nice catches that were unbelievable throws. He's too inconsistent right now. He has talent and a good future, but he's got to get more consistent."

He was coming off of an injury at the time of that draft.

L'Damian Washington seems like the same guy only bigger/younger/cheaper and possibly faster and available around the 6-7 rounds/udfa. They must know more than the media has available on the guy at this time.

Cheaper? Byrd is basically free. No draft picks required and his salary will be barely above a rookie 7th round pick's salary.

I don't like Washington as a 7th rounder.

Both are the type of player that I would like to see earn the 5th WR spot. Big, fast outside WRs.

You have to admit those last three comp picks in the seventh are made for guys just like him with potential boom. If you do not like Washington in the seventh you do not have a lot to pick over, maybe Cody Hoffman BYU, Jeff Janis small school Saginaw Valley, that is about it for WR in the seventh, guys like Norwood from Alabama will be gone by the fifth/sixth. You can probably sense from my opinion I am not picking a WR till late in the draft. I would be tempted by Mike Evans in the first and someone possibly in the fifth if they are falling drastically.
