According to Rob Rang....the Cowboys were among the 20 teams at Washington's pro day, but neither Vea or Dante Pettis participated.

From Rang:

"Vea, the reigning Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, pulled a hamstring running the 40-yard dash at NFL Scouting Combine. All NFL 32 teams were notified that he would not be participating in timed or positional drills during Saturday’s workout."

"The 6-1, 195-pound Pettis will hold a personal Pro Day workout April 2, but members of the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys groups took time to talk with him after Saturday’s workouts."

Can you point us to someplace where he said that?

He would never come out and say that. That would be disrespectful to anyone who plays the 1 Tech for us. But it's been covered in the past by the media that Marinelli simply doesn't think the 1 Tech is a position he needs to sink investments into. And when you look at who he has brought in as the 1 Techs under him............................... it seems to be pretty accurate:

Hayden
Thornton
McClain
Paea

And I think it's been said he also likes Ash.

See many think the Vea will be gone by the 19th and he very well may be but we are bringing in Ridley who many believe will be gone by the time we pick. If Dallas is interested, they would bring him in as one of the 30 visits or schedule a private workout. They apparently to this point have done neither which leads me to believe that they aren't looking for a 1tech DT until the earliest being the 3rd round.

Here is a list of who Dallas has either visited with or invited as one of the 30 visits allowed other than the Dallas pro day.
  • Brandon Bean, WR, Grand Valley State (PRO DAY)
  • Austin Corbett, OT/C, Nevada (PRIVATE WORKOUT)
  • DeShon Elliott, S, Texas (one of 30 VISITS)
  • Leighton Vander Esch^, ILB, Boise State (one of 30 VISITS, PRIVATE WORKOUT)
  • Kylie Fitts, DE/3-4OLB, Utah (Senior Bowl Meeting)
  • Daurice Fountain, WR, Northern Iowa (one of 30 VISITS)
  • Davon Grayson, WR, East Carolina (PRIVATE WORKOUT)
  • Will Hernandez, G, UTEP (one of 30 VISITS)
  • Nyheim Hines^, RB, N.C. State (one of 30 VISITS, PRIVATE WORKOUT)
  • Hayden Hurst, TE, South Carolina (COMBINE MEETING)
  • Dewey Jarvis, DE, Howard (Senior Bowl Meeting)
  • Malik Jefferson, ILB, Texas (PRO DAY)
  • Josey Jewell, OLB/ILB, Iowa (COMBINE MEETING)
  • Chris Jones, CB, Nebraska (PRIVATE WORKOUT)
  • Darius Leonard^, OLB/ILB, South Carolina State (PRIVATE WORKOUT, one of 30 VISITS)
  • T.J. McCollum, OLB, Purdue (PRO DAY)
  • Tarvarus McFadden, CB, Florida State (COMBINE MEETING)
  • Kolton Miller, OT, UCLA (one of 30 VISITS)
  • D.J. Moore, WR, Maryland (COMBINE MEETING)
  • Dante Pettis, WR, Washington (PRO DAY)
  • Darius Phillips, CB, Western Michigan (Senior Bowl Meeting)
  • Calvin Ridley^, WR, Alabama (COMBINE MEETING, one of 30 VISITS)
  • Mason Rudolph, QB, Oklahoma State (PRO DAY)
  • Jaylen Samuels, RB, N.C. State (PRO DAY)
  • Vyncint Smith, WR, Limestone (PRIVATE WORKOUT)
  • Josh Sweat, DE/3-4OLB, Florida State (COMBINE MEETING)
  • Akrum Wadley, RB, Iowa (Senior Bowl Meeting)
  • David Wells, TE, San Diego State (PRIVATE WORKOUT)
  • Cedric Wilson, WR, Boise State (Senior Bowl Meeting)
  • Isaiah Wynn, OT/G/C, Georgia (COMBINE MEETING)
There will be about 20+ more than get the 30 Visits and probably as many private workouts. Some of those with only Combine meeting or pro day will get a visit call or private workout. Once we know who the 30 visits are, then we will have a fairly decent idea of who they intend to draft in different rounds if available.

They didn't bring in Claiborne either but trade up to get him

Not sourced, but interesting.

We probably should give the team the benefit of the doubt when it comes to their draft approach here in recent years. They’re doing a pretty good job.

This guy is a beat writer for the Houston Chronicle and worked for the Baltimore Sun prior to that. No idea why he doesn't have a check mark.

Aaron Wilson has been doing for this for years, I am sure he is very well sourced.

The odds are far greater that Ridley will be there at #19 than Vea.

Many teams won't risk a high or mid-first on any receiver - even if it is a position of need.
We had three wrs go in the top ten last year, they all dissapointed

Probably for the best. If they have zero plans to maximize his talent then no reason to bring him on board.

You guys should have remembered that the Cowboys FO does not value the following positions highly.

SAM LB
DT 1Tech
Safety

The will not devote big dollars or high draft picks to these positions in the Marinelli defense.
These are easy gets in the draft from round 4 thru UDFA.
Yeo. And they play like turd

Those who keep whining for a 345 lb "1 tech" tackle to be drafted by the Cowboys, please stop:

1. Marineilli runs a modified Tampa 2 defense, to wit:

"The personnel used in the Tampa 2 are specific in position and required abilities. All positions in this defense place a premium on speed, and often the result is that they are all undersized by league standards. The defensive linemen in this scheme have to be quick and agile enough to create pressure on the quarterback without the aid of a blitz from either the linebackers or the secondary..." A monster nose tackle is not the type of player Marinelli wants.

2. Marinelli is the defensive coordinator, as such players are drafted that HE WANTS, if he doesn't want big, lumbering (yes I know Vea is supposedly quick, but he's still a big guy) defensive tackles, the Cowboys won't draft one, at least not high.

3. If a big defensive tackle is drafted, likely Marinelli won't know what to do with him, and the draft pick would essentially be wasted. We've had enough of players who take up cap space and don't get to play.

Who knows, maybe Jerry or Stephen or Jason will put their foot down and change things, but I seriously doubt it.

Everybody here KNOWS these points.
Most DISAGREE with them that's all...

They get no benefit of the doubt here when they fail to consistently put any resources into the 1 Tech largely because their DC thinks he can succeed with slobs there. Maybe if he was having some level of success but he's not and it seems every single offseason, here we are looking for bodies at the 1 Tech.

which is absurd considering that Marinate's most successful teams he coached had Greg Spires,Booger McFarland, and Tommie Harris anchoring the middle. so dumb it seems like he forgot they allowed those great lbs to run free.

Indeed and they have been successful in blitzes. Should do that more.

Be interesting to see how many more season before the light goes off for our great GM?

Next year most likely. We bring in Richards for what exactly? It makes my brain hurt thinking about but this clown show FO is probably using this yr to see how Kris does then gives him the dc job.

How many times does it need to be said?

We won't draft a 1t in the first round

For those hoping the Cowboys pick Vita Vea, the Cowboys were NOT among the 20 teams at the University of Washington Pro Day Workout.

The Cowboys have been working out DT prospects rated as 3rd round picks and later, such as Nathan Shepherd and P.J. Hall

Sweet!!!! I hope we get PJ Hall! As for Vea, probably because he's going to be out of our range.
