Cowboys source, Cowboys close to deal with Osa $21 Million a year

Absolutely nothing.

But what really impresses them is that they drafted him.

You were drafted by us? Woah. Nice.
Exactly what it is. They keep paying guys who are a little above average like they are 4 time pro bowlers.

funny how great OSA is that's why he's getting this huge offer, well let's think he's the same OSA that's in there when we're getting ran on, he's the same UNDERSIZED osa that struggles getting to the QB
OSA got the QB more often than Chris Jones, Jalen Carter, and Quinnen Williams last year. What DT do you think is worth $20M per year?

Christina Wilkins got north of $27M per year last offseason. He averages a sack every 89 pass snaps in his career. OSA averages a sack every 94 snaps in his career. Its fair to bash the results with his run defense, but hes one of the better pass rushing interior players in the league.

Gotcha, I have an issue with us rushing the passer pimp, we rush the passer or whatever but are we actually affecting the passer? Often times I see us get close to the QB only for the QB to get away from us, or we get there and can't take him down to get the sack. Getting pressure is great, but its better when it's actually affecting the qb

Thats modern day football, QBs are more athletic than they've ever been. They're still getting sacked at high rates, but its coming from the more athletic edge players and guys coming on the blitz. These interior rushers are not getting the sack totals they were even a few years ago. How many DTs hit 10 sacks or more last year? I'm not sure if anyone did? Not sure.

OSA was 5th in total pressures last year (every DT ahead of him also had more snaps)
He was 5th in hits on the QB
He was 14th in the league in sacks for interior players even though he only got to the QB 7 times.

If your interior guys can get penetration and keep the QB from stepping up in the pocket so a guy like Micah can get to him easily I'm all for it. His last year in Dallas DeMacrus Ware missed out on so many sacks because our DT play was so bad and QBs could easily step up in the pocket to avoid him on the edge. Its a team game, its a complementary game....thats why some of these deeper metrics are needed to tell the full story instead of just the sack totals for each individual.

I don't care if it were 23 rupees, it's too much for a player like him i'm sorry! We're paying the top tier free agent price, he needs to test the market maybe he gets more
For a player who was at the top stats wise for his position..lol ok the quicker you get with this day and age of market value the easier it'll be for you

We will see what the actual numbers are but $21M wouldnt even make him a top 10 DT in the league.
We will see what the details are but AAV around 21 million puts him right in the top 10 according to Spotrac.... Bengals were rumored to want him so I assume Jerry's ego went bonkers. He is a decent DT, I am not opposed to keeping him, especially with how hard it is to fill that position, but my point is more frustration with the front office jerking around with some premium players and quickly overpaying potentially on others.

How much of this is also due to going to back to a more Marinelli 'DL gets upfield' type defensive approach? He does fit that scheme...

After Mazi Smith, Osa is the #1 reason why we get bullied in the run game.

But this guy gets you 3.5 sacks a year.

21 million!

I fully agree this front office has been horrible the last few years in how they have handled contract. I just don't think the OSA deal is that bad, but you're right we need to see the actual numbers before making any conclusions. If he is around the 21M mark you're right its flirting with the top 10 and it wont take much for him to get into the top 10. Its also about 7.5% of the cap which is in line with Ed Oliver's contract which would be the 17th highest in the league. That honestly sounds about right for a guy like OSA. If the final numbers are significantly higher I will absolutely change my tune and say they overpaid.
