Just ignore Hostile, he'd rather watch people drive cars around in a circle for 6 hours or what juiced up freaks swing at a ball and take 4 steps every 2 minutes.

Over flopping on the ground like a fish out of water only to magically recover. You bet.

The best soccer story I ever heard was the one about a game in London having an incredibly thick fog roll in. The referees delayed the game and the teams went to the locker room. Except for one goalie who didn't hear the conversation. So he stayed in goal in the fog for 20 minutes not seeing a blessed thing, but thinking the match was still going on and his team had them in defense mode.

The whole flopping/injury crap with soccer, now that IS pathetic. But all sports have their quirks and probably embarassments that fans will overlook because they love the sport. If you aren't a fan of the sport, you'll ridicule it, like Dreadnought did NASCAR and baseball, two sports that I also consider extremely boring.

I can watch soccer but it helps a lot to have a rooting interest...I can not say the same for Nascar or Baseball they are awfully hard to sit and watch even with a rooting interest

Outside of the World Series and the World Cup, both Baseball and Soccer are ridiculously boring to watch. I can pretty much only stay interested watching contact sports. I used to be a big basketball fan too, but I completely ignore 2/3 of the regular season before watching the last third and the playoffs and don't feel like I've missed a thing.

Football is great because every game means so much, and the playoffs are one and done. If Baseball only had 25 games in a season, maybe I'd be interested.

I actually think that soccer isn't that bad, and has it's exciting moments, but to be honest with you, I never became hooked because there is virtually no stats kept.

I am a stats man... I love numbers... when I was a kid, I used to compile the stats for every game of every NFL team in notebooks each season. Of course the internet has made this no longer needed for me, but still...

Long story short, can't get into a sport where stats mean nothing.

I've come to really like soccer in my old(er) age. Guess it happened after I got into hockey. You can appreciate one if you "GET" the other. Just need a different way of thinking, realizing that scoring isn't what makes a sport great, unless it's basketball, which is why I don't like basketball anymore..bores me to tears. But hockey, and to a lesser extent, soccer, are fascinating and flat out mesmerising.
Sorry, I love Hockey (not as much as FOOTBALL but still) and I still don't get Soccer. I would almost as soon watch Baseball as Soccer and I'd rather go out in the yard and watch the grass grow than watch baseball...It's more entertaining.

NASCAR on TV can only be watched and enjoyed in a semi-dark bar with other NASCAR fans to talk (and argue) with. However, NASCAR live is one hell of a rush.

Baseball on the other hand...live or on TV...requires lots of beer and something else (anything else) to keep you entertained during the game the game.

I both like football and soccer, these are the most fantastic sports in the world. I'm from Europe, but I really love the NFL. Soccer is the biggest sport here, and it's really an amazing sport. I heard in the US, it has an image problem, saying it is for kids and girls. In Europe, a lot of people say basketball is a girls sport, because it's a non-contact game. NFL is great to watch, I hope I can visit a Cowboys match soon. About soccer: If you hate it, just try to visit a match of Manchester United in England or FC Barcelona in Spain, and you'll have a different watch of soccer. I will launch the NFL section on my site as soon as possible, when it's completely ready :)

i hate soccer based on the fact they run 20 sum odd miles a game...forget that

First off, football as it is properly known, only to 95% of the planet of course

No one runs around 20 miles a match, more like 9 on the average.

It is an athlete's sport, for sure...There's flopping like there is in every professional sport, unfortunately...Basically, players trying to bait the officials into awarding them an advantage...NBA is heading to a higher level in that regard, IMHO, and NOT in a good way.

Just came back from the Euro 2008 and boring wouldn't enter into it...Best tournament I saw for football, ever.

And one of the advantages it has over American Professional football is that there isn't the unbelievable amount of time wasting going on...Anyone who has ever been to see the Cowboys play must have been in for quite a shock to see how many TV timeouts, interruptions of play and general sitting around seeing nothing happen for stretches of the game.

Gotta agree that the commercials are getting really boring while watching the Cowboys. There seems to be 5 minutes of commercials for every 30 seconds of action on the field. If it gets any worse, I will watch the game later, and ff through the ads. Why see the same commercial 15 or 20 times?

About flopping, even hockey has it and it's arguably the roughest sport out there.

And about time wasting. That is the main detriment to American football. There is more time not playing than there is playing. A play might last 5-10 seconds, then nothing for at least 30 seconds. That isn't a problem for ME or others who grow up with the sport. But I can see how it might make it harder for folks from other parts of the world to get into it easily. And the NFL for me is really tough to watch sometimes because of the ridiculous amount of TV timeouts..it's frustrating. Don't get me wrong though football is still my favorite sport, although I like NCAA over NFL. Basketball also has a lot of stoppages in play. That's one nice things about soccer and hockey. Soccer pretty much never stops. Hockey sometimes the game will go on for 10 minutes of game time without a stoppage, although it's fairly rare.

Believe it or not is the most popular sport in the world.
popular adjective

1: of or relating to the general public 2: suitable to the majority: as a: adapted to or indicative of the understanding and taste of the majority b: suited to the means of the majority : inexpensive 3: frequently encountered or widely accepted 4: commonly liked or approved

There can be no debate. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world and is played extensively by males and females alike throughout many countries and cultures. It has existed in some crude form or fashion for hundreds of years as far back as the Roman Empire. The British eventually established formal rules for the sport in the mid 1800’s and due to their worldwide influence at that time (e.g. the British Empire), soccer spread throughout Europe and even into parts of South America, Africa and Asia by the turn of the 19th century. It’s fans live amongst a populace of billions.

By comparison, American football’s roots also began in the mid 1800’s, as rugby, and the rules remained more rugby like until the 1900’s. It wasn’t even really formalized into a true, organized, league-type sport at the professional level until the 1920’s, with rules which are basically employed today. Baseball’s popularity over football dominated the country until as late as the early 1970’s. It’s only been nearly 40 years since football became the most popular American sport, in a country which numbers in the several hundred million. There's a BIG gulf between billions and millions.

So, is soccer more popular than football? Of course it is. The sheer number of fans who follow the sport make it a moot argument and that will always be the case. The demise of NFL Europe provided evidence to that effect. However, I would pose the question, “Which is the better overall sport athletically”? That opinion, shared by soccer and football fans alike on that topic, would be more interesting for me personally.

"Me?" I don’t believe that the two sports are comparable beyond the physical exertion of the players during games; and even then, I would give the edge to football players over soccer players. The athletic play and coaching involved in American football is far more complex than that of soccer.

If there was anything which soccer players performed better at athletically over football players, I would have to say it’s those corner penalty kicks over that of field goals attempted by placekickers. Unless someone can block a field goal attempt at the line of scrimmage, placekickers’ FG attempts are unimpeded between his foot and the goalposts (unless you’re Mike Vanderjagt, of course). A soccer player attempting one of those corner penalty kicks has to bend his or her kick to the front of the goal AND through a goalkeeper. That’s a skill set that most American football kickers can’t top… unless (I'll bet) it’s Mat McBriar, that is…
