He makes perfect sense since he knows the system and the team. He had a very good season until he was hurt in '14.

Unfortunately He always gets hurt and is best used on the strong side. I didn't think they would bring in a veteran like this until the end of camp.

Its scary that lee, hitchens and durant could be starters and all 3 always get hurt. It would literally be week to week if these guys are playing.

Hopefully nzochea and wilson can show they belong and wilber can play at a high level.

Excellent point. Durant has played all 16 games only once in his career, and that was four years ago.

I still remain firmly in the Damien Wilson camp. I want him to take hold of the MLB position.

Durant can provide good depth

It would be a good common sense move provided he is healthy. Nothing wrong with a vet safety net. If he looks bad in camp, cut him. There is only so far this progress stopper label can go with the inexperience we have at the position.

Certainly doesn't hurt to have quality competition. We know Lee is a star (when healthy), but otherwise have plenty of questions.

Hitchens, Gatchkar and Wilber have at least shown some ability to step on the field and not be major liabilities, while the jury is out on Wilson and Nzeocha. Maybe they, and even Deon King, will prove more worthy of a spot than Durant, but I don't have my hopes up about it.

I'd say if Durant is signed, our corps will likely be Lee, Durant, Hitchens, Gatchkar, Wilber, Wilson. Nzeocha and King might make the practice squad.

You nailed it, we need Nzochea and Wilson to be something or we will be looking for more help in due time!

Has he been playing in the middle? I ask because I think they initially viewed him as a weakside backer IIRC. But I honestly haven't followed where he's been lining up recently.

We are in big trouble at MLB this year. I think the FO has little confidence in our current talent to man that position even after training camp. Romac was perfect when healthy(mentally and physically), this defense needs a surprise hammer man to step up and in early July he is still camouflaged perfectly with the JAGs.

Maybe cooler heads have prevailed in the Front office. Indeed this is a sensible move if it proves true. I would also bring in Butler for a tryout - just for a look as a pickup later if needed. Seems we have depth, just not known depth. A couple of experienced guys to maybe help groom all the young pups.
Oh yeah, and McClain - don't let the door hit ya on the way out !
You have proved your not trust-worthy, so bye Felecia ..... that money will pay for Durant easily.
Lee, Hitchens/Durant, Wilber. Wilson, Nzochea, Gatchcar, and King to PC. We will find out plenty about these guys this year.

I'm good with it (assuming he is cheap enough).

The staff loves him and he is athletic enough to play in this defense. His health is the only question.

In Dallas, I am not aware that he has. He did play in the middle at Minnesota as well as in junior college. He has the weight to do it (243 pounds), despite being only 6' tall.

Wilson played MLB in 2014 starting 12 games for the Gophers so he definitely has it in his background.

Eberflus had him learning all three positions in 2015 at SAM, Will and MLB with the idea of being a back-up with flex.

He struggles with play action recognition and has average speed so Will may not be his best position even though he is willing to run and chase.

Some scouts projected him as a better fit at Will at the next level because he struggles with downhill running attacks and has trouble getting off blocks, often getting caught in the trash.

It really depends on his development into year two and where he looks best but this terrifies me to this day:

Nzeocha said that he has been practicing mainly in the middle but I don't know about Wilson.

I figured they'd be playing Nzeocha at SAM, so I was a little surprised he's been inside.

In retrospect, they may have known a suspension was coming down. I don't know how far in advance these things are known in the NFL, but it's possible. I thought he was a SAM candidate, too, until I'd heard that.

This.

He's a good leader and was a defensive captain for us. The young guys are going to benefit from him and Lee being there.
