Its funny were all getting excited about Durant as if he is an allpro. However, Im right there with everyone, would be a good signing. I was interested in bringing him back even before the Mcclain suspension. Best available option for the Cowboys at lb.

I think he still has Pro Bowl caliber talent... when healthy... which isn't often enough. Give him an low guarantee, heavy incentive contract and bring him in.

He makes perfect sense since he knows the system and the team. He had a very good season until he was hurt in '14.

Unfortunately He always gets hurt and is best used on the strong side. I didn't think they would bring in a veteran like this until the end of camp.

Its scary that lee, hitchens and durant could be starters and all 3 always get hurt. It would literally be week to week if these guys are playing.

Hopefully nzochea and wilson can show they belong and wilber can play at a high level.

The bolded is his biggest issue, two seasons here he played 16 games.

We keep signing "Hold the Fort" types. The problem is that the reinforcements never get here. Three years ago we signed Durant to "Hold the Fort", and drafted the likes of Devonte Holloman, Anthony Hitchens, Will Smith, Damien Wilson, Mark Nzeocha and the injured Jaylon Smith in that period of time. Here we are back to square one.

True, but I think the Cowboys only want Durant back for depth. With Hitchens now a starter at "mike", and likely Kyle Wilber at "sam", the only backup LB with any NFL starts is Andrew Gachkar (and technically Wilson, who started once last year). Durant would cover any potential injuries. Of course, if this is what you meant by holding the fort, at least it gives guys like Wilson and Nzeocha time to develop.

Selling some of our LB's a little short in that post.

We've done a particularly awful job at LB in the draft. That's why we're always back where we started. None of these draft picks who should be factors now can play.

Not really back at square one. We made a mistake counting on an unreliable McClain, for sure. That hurts when you lose a starter for the year because he's an idiot. But Hitchens was a hit. Holloman would have been a hit, but was an injury retirement. That's not a drafting mistake. Will Smith was an after thought, but Wilson showed promise as a rookie. These guys are young, but there's no particular reason to think they can't play.

But our issue isn't necessarily with the LBs. What we need is more beef on the DL. That's hard to do when you're relying on players with drug problems and you're spending high picks on positions (like OG and RB) that are possible to fill in the lower rounds.

He was a leader and a good player in 14 though. Tearing his tricep at seattle? Was it seattle? Was a tough break. He is another good veteran to have though with a group of young players. Wouldn't hurt those guys to be around him.

I get that but if we signing a guy to fill a hole he has to have the track record of being able to fill a hole completely. Do not get me wrong he is a good guy to have as a back up but he has never been able to prove that he is front line guy for a full season. With Lee's history, and Hichens and Wilsons lack of history, and Macs history do we really want a guy whose body is not dependable we already have one of those in Lee, and Macs head is not dependable. I would rather take a less talented guy that shown he is not injury prone for 16 games than a guy that is stellar but only for 8

must be why they haven't signed him yet and I think Gatchkar fits the mold of the player you are talking about.

It sort of depends how many snaps he gives you. Durant is good enough to give you legit reps. I'll catch hell for this, but he was playing as well as Lee for us from the WIL before he went down in 2014. Legit high-level football.

He also gives us an option of flipping Lee to MIKE if anything happens to Hitch. Signing him
makes a lot if sense.

It's been four drafts and five linebackers taken since we last signed Durant in 2013. If he somehow ends up starting in 2016 how is that "not really" back to square one?

Not if he's an injury replacement for a team that's lost two starters in front of him. But he's not even on the team yet.

Hey, if one of the draft picks comes in and outplays the level of play we got from Durant in 2014, we'll all be thrilled. If not, there's nothing wrong with adding veteran depth with some position flex to a position group that always takes a lot of beating in the NFL.

Id be happy with either Durant or Bruce Carter, if released, as insurance policies. Both are solid pros and RKG.

What if he doesn't start?

If he doesn't start he's either dead weight or a progress stopper and being a vested vet his salary is guaranteed for the season if he's on the roster on week one. He's too old and injury prone. Pass.
