IRVING, Texas -- In configuring their salary-cap figures for 2016, the Dallas Cowboys will have to budget for base-salary increases for wide receiverTerrance Williams and safety J.J. Wilcox.

Due to the proven performance escalator that was put into the 2011 collective bargaining agreements, players picked in Rounds 3-7 can earn more in the final year of their rookie contracts provided they play in 35 percent of the offensive or defensive snaps in two of their first three seasons or 35 percent of the cumulative snaps in all three seasons.

Williams has played at least 67.9 percent of the snaps in each of his first three seasons; Wilcox has played in at least 45.2 percent, topping out at 94.4 percent of the defensive snaps in 2014.

As a result, Williams and Wilcox will earn base salaries of $1.686 million in 2016, according to the NFL Players Association records. Williams was set to earn a base salary of $707,500 and Wilcox was set to earn $690,000.

Wilcox should be shown the door, not get a raise.

It's a 53 man roster. Such takes only make you seem mad. Not saying you actually are mind you.

I loathe Hayden starting for example but if we bring in an upgrade that still means we only have 2 guys to play the position. If you dump Wilcox that means Heath gets his snaps.

I get that Wilcox played poorly and his clock is ticking but I think one more year to see if he can catch up to the speed of the game could see meaningful improvement. Player development is the name of the game and that takes time.

I've seen enough bad angles taken and missed tackles to know he can't play. Sign a reasonably priced FA and draft one in the 3rd or 4th round. Put Byron Jones back there if Jerry decides to get a CB instead of a safety. That should be enough to keep Heath strictly on special teams, where he belongs.

I've seen people improve working out in space and their tackling. I think you're giving up too easy.

This.

I'm all for getting rid of players who offer little but who takes their spot? Draft their replacements before they are kicked to the curb. Until then, be nice to them.

I seen Wilcox in a few special teams plays this year so he is helping somewhere. Maybe he shouldn't get many defensive snaps but this time last year, people weren't as down on him so that should show you he has some potential to turn it around. He isn't guaranteed a roster spot though.

Cut them both. Neither did anything to warrant $1 million pay raises. It's a stupid rule anyway. Being on the field and not playing well should not get you automatically rewarded with more money. The team can go out and sign much better players with that $3.4 million cap space they will now be consuming. They had their chance and both were below average. No way I would keep them with those hefty raises.
