Cowboys to use 2nd round tender on T.J. Bass

Why do the Zaney Zoners on this site not understand that just because our geriatric GM places a 2nd round tender on a backup guard, or a kicker with The Yips, etc etc, that zero teams would actually give up such a high pick (or even any pick) to acquire that player?

Why do our fans never understand that the OTHER team has to think it's a good deal for THEM, and that Day 2 draft picks are EXTREMELY valuable and coveted....despite the fact that they see this lesson taught to them over and over again every offseason, yet STILL come clogging up the site with ridiculous statements and Madden-esque fantasies of other teams just waiting in line to throw their draft picks at us.

You'd think after a while....years and decades even....people would learn.

They wouldn't trade him then. You aren't considering his age. Young starter has value.
I agree they wouldn't. That's my point. Its worth more to keep him then to trade him.

The only value someone has is what someone is willing to give up. And nobody is giving up big time compensation for a non starter guard. You're falling in the trap of overvaluing our own players.

I'm pretty sure the tenders have nothing to do with getting compensation for them. They want them. You typically tender guys you want to keep.

very good backup; average starter for a few games; not quality starter for a season

He has and could start for us if needed again. He could start for other teams as well.
Doesn't matter. Teams are not gonna trade for a guy that hasnt' started much but can. They will play for them sure. But if you think a 2nd or 3rd or even a 4th you will get? Yeah you are overvaluing the position. Teams don't even want to draft guards high let alone trade a 2nd for them.

he could start for lousy teams or rebuilding teams to hold down the spot until they got a real starter there
for a team that wants to contend for a SB, he is not good enough

Smith out to LT, Bass to LG?
Smith doesn’t want to play tackle so you have to really want to force him out rhere and probably compensate him for it

So, you need a really compelling reason to do it.

You never know. There are crazy trades every year.
No....I DO know ..

And here's the proof: just watch.

It won't happen. Not 1 in a billion chance.

And then you'll know....and maybe learn something for future years

Sam Williams. Maybe someone will give us a 3rd for him, since we don't want him because he's complete garbage. YOU NEVER KNOW!!!!!!!!

Team with a dire need would easily pay a second, or more likely negotiate for a third, to get a guy like Bass, who is likely a starter for a lot of teams. However, no one will pay that much before a major injury to their starters…and before the draft.
The Chargers might after this past year.
