I would have also liked to seen more blocked kicks, but IMO has more to do with JG. He plays conservative ST's.

Don't get me started on our special teams last year.... It was a complete disaster. Stunned that we brought our ST coach back after that. They really wanted continuity. I want to say the only coach that left was Callahan.

Saw Lofton was let go today. Don't know if he would fit Rod's scheme since he is coming from a 3-4, but by stats looked to have had a good year.

Lofton played in a 4-3 when he was with the Falcons. He fits the scheme on run downs, he's not great in coverage, though.

It may be Durant who's not back. Carter is our best SAM and Rivers is a backup SAM, he's not a starter.

A lot of rumbling during the season with the staff not being thrilled with Carter's work ethic. I think that more than money is why he hasn't been a priority so far.

Could be, we'll see what happens. I thought he played well down the stretch.

Prone to concussions, multiple muscle and knee tweaks, four-game fine for substance abuse, teetering on suspension, pending arson investigation, multi-retirements, generally odd disposition......

Wanna hitch your season's hopes on that?

Better have a serious backup plan if you bring McClain back.

Sean Lee and Anthony Hitchens can both play MLB

Jerry used to never wanted to pay LBers but maybe it's time that changed. Need to keep these guys. He paid Lee so pay the others decently. They were a strength on D last year as it turned out.

Jerry was going by Jimmy Johnson's philosophy there. I think Jerry regrets letting Ken Norton go. I think they will try to keep whoever Marinelli says he needs as long as it fits the budget.

Very much agree. RoMac is the only person on our defense who starts to enter into scary territory. I remember watching the 49ers D in the playoffs a couple years ago at their peak and thinking good god it looks like they have legit werewolves playing on their defense.

McClain is the only player on our squad who qualifies as a monster (though I'll admit I think he elevated Durant to mini wolf at times). The Defense needs someone to make the other guys look like little kids a couple times a game, even if it means he takes a play off or blows some underneath coverages.

Def Ro brought the monster out of Durant. (Another one of Rolando's intagibles. )

Great, except he's a split hair away from a suspension, and probably more after that.

The team walks around on eggshells around him. I like his game, but I'm tired of his act.

Can they make his contract so that if he gets suspended we don't have to pay him?

If it's a drug suspension he wouldn't. The only way guys got paid is when Goddell put them on his list even though it doesn't technically count as a suspension. Suspension though only affects the base salary.

Kinda torn.

While Carter has been inconsistent, he seemingly began to start to come into his own a bit. He led the team in takeaways as well. He also played in the nickel at times...and on the weak side. Love Ro's intimidating physical presence...but do worry about where is head & heart is at. Regarding Ro's injuries...would hope they were a product of him missing considerable time.

There are pro's & con's with both. But Carter -- despite his past inconsistency -- might be the guy they can count on more long-term. Does Ro hold it all together? Does Carter continue to play with consistency & ascend?

Carter won't be back. That's why they signed Rivers.

I think they signed Rivers because talks with Durrant have stalled. I highly doubt Dallas is expecting a whole lot from Rivers outside of an insurance policy.

yeah. I agree, get someone as a backup....., "just in case"...

But a guy who has all this, "Prone to concussions, multiple muscle and knee tweaks, four-game fine for substance abuse, teetering on suspension, pending arson investigation, multi-retirements, generally odd disposition......"

is exactly the kind of guy u want on your defense , chasing down Rbs, Wrs....:):):)
