Note that I was one of the first advocates for releasing him on this board, but to whether DeMarcus Ware is done, his 10 sacks last year clearly show that he is not.

His disappearance at the end of the season was a trend I'd like to avoid bringing back here. With Lawrence, Gregory, Hardy, Russell and Mincey there's no room for him anyway.

With a limited role, I think he would be able to keep his presence going through the year and into the playoffs.

His whole career, he played way too many snaps per year, especially for a defensive end. 200-300 snaps a year, I think Ware gives you an amazing performance.

Replace Mincey with Ware in 2016 at the same cost, and bring back Hardy, and I'd be pretty happy with that rotation.

But why? The issue has never been his numbers. It's been his production when team needed it most (tired or not, he was an amazing athlete in his prime but still faded) , and other than one sack vs the undefeated Saints in 2009 regular season, he's never come up in the clutch.

Lawrence and his 2 sacks in 2 playoff games is more than I ever remember Ware doing in his entire playoff career here.

Loved the guy, always a gentleman, but we need mean on this defence. And with guys like Ro McClain, Randy Gregory, Greg Hardy and the rest, teams will start fearing us, rather than just the tv announcers who looked at numbers only.

Not sure why you're having a hard time seeing that playing 700 snaps reduces his ability to be consistently productive when it matters....

There are plenty of DEs/olbs that played 3 downs all season that didn't fade, heck they excelled in the playoffs. It's not really an excuse

Name me one defensive end, 31 years or older who had 700+ snaps in the regular season and excelled in the playoffs.

It should also be noted that no one in the playoffs had more than 2.5 sacks. It should also be noted that Ware only played in 1 playoff game since Denver was 1 and done in the playoffs.

They're awfully old threads now, but I should probably point out that while people often try to point out that Demarcus Ware faded at crunch time, every time it's actually looked at, that argument was absolutely blown out of the water for the false argument that it is.

Here's just one example, but there were many: http://cowboyszone.com/threads/dema...g-plays-like-suggs-matthews-etc.226975/page-7 Look for Adam's posts because they're informative and pretty hard to dispute.

Looking at this list, it makes me a little sad to think that Ben Gardner is going to be the odd man out. I am hoping he will hold the fort until Hardy returns.

Yeah yeah yeah, I want everyone to succeed. I will be heartbroken in early September.

Haley was never the only rusher like Ware was for most of his career. the years Jerruh wasted NOT finding someone to complement him really hurt us.

That's what Spencer was supposed to be......

It's good that we have former players who are emotionally attached enough to the C'boys to offer their time and help for those who work so hard to find a place on this team. It's only one of the things that makes this team unique. If any of the youngsters listen to what he imparts, they stand to benefit greatly. We've definitely got some fine talent for him to work with this year, too. It's not difficult to see where our passrush should prosper.

Never count the Gardner out. He could still beat out Russel. Hopefully we can sneak the loser on the PS.

I think Russell has a chance to surprise. He has the tools, could play LDE and also DT on passing downs.

Gardner, I still do not get why people are taking a wild leap of faith on him at this stage.

He also faded at the end of last season with the Broncos.

I would beg to differ. While in Dallas, Ware was pretty much "it". He really didn't have much talent around him to take the pressure off or spell him when he needed it. Denver actually had a decent defensive line, and very good LB's, the past 2 years. Ware didn't have to "do it all" like he did here, yet he managed a pedestrian 10 sacks. For what the Bronco's paid him, can anyone here say they're getting their money's worth. We all have to realize that sacks don't tell the whole story, but if we're honest we can at least agree that he was paid for his name and PAST productivity. Not trying to dog him at all, just saying his production is way below his pay.....

Well, do you think he still has an opportunity to have a career similar to that of one Jay Ratliff?
I still see Gardner as the type of role player every championship team has. They will not be pro bowl caliber, but they will make a solid contribution to the team.

It looks like Dallas is stockpiling a bunch of those (as well as some hopeful future superstars).
