Don’t you have to be actually a good free agent to warrant a comp pick?

It's a weird take. In order to get a compensatory pick for Mayowa:
1) He would have to complete his contract, which was through next year.
2) Someone would have to sign him to a considerable contract.
3) We would have to sign less free agents than we lost (compensatory math) next off-season.

The person who claimed this was "odd timing" doesn't seem to understand how compensatory picks work.
