Haven't done this in a while, but this game merits special attention. Carefully reviewed all phases of this team. Wanted to look at subjectively and not emotionally. Here are my thoughts:
Positives:
Travis Frederick - I saw him as the best of the offensive lineman. Frederick did a really nice picking up the twists and stunts the eagles constantly try to pull. The offensive line wasn't nearly as bad as people are saying they are. Leary had his struggles, and Martin had a few mishaps in the running game.
Cole Beasley - Don't let the fumble fool you. Beasley was the only one consistently getting open. He was open A LOT! Romo missed him a couple times, and a few other times he was open as well when Romo did not see him.
Tyrone Crawford - His best game. Felt like he was the only one on the D Line who came to play this game. Several pressures, and excellent in run game as well.
Sterling Moore - Was impressed the way he covered and fought all game long, especially in man coverage situations. Was constantly on his guy like glue all game long. Made a few big tackles as well in run game. If it were up to me, he would get the start over Carr next week. He challenges and gets more physical with receivers.
Special Teams - Bisaccia has taken a lot of grief this year, but the group did an excellent job with the eagles great special teams units. Blocking was outstanding on the returns, and we did great job in coverage as well.
Negatives:
Zone Coverage - Baffles me that these defensive coaches continually try to play zone coverage. We clearly cannot do any form of zone, and will just be gashed little by little up the field 10 yards at a time. While we got gashed in man at times as well, these corners and linebackers at least fight and make it more competitive rather then looking completely lost and pointing blame on everyone else.
Tony Romo - He is going to hate himself after watching this tape. His throws constantly fell flat. Missed Dez open deep on two occasions under throwing balls. Missed Beasley and Witten several other times on crucial third downs. He also was perceiving pressure when there wasn't any. This caused unnecessary hurrying and forcing throws, even taking a sack. This made the offensive line appear worse then they were.
Terrence Williams - Not convinced this is the # 2 receiver we need. While I praise his blocking, his routes leave something to be desired. His lack of any form of fight on that interception drove me crazy, I really hope he simply just did not see the ball in the air. For several games now, he is simply not getting open despite having single coverage. In my honest opinion, we need a speed receiver to stretch the defense. Wanted Emmanuel Sanders last year, he would have been perfect complement to Dez. Williams does not do anything exceptionally well in receiving game.
Ronald Leary - Worst game this year. Gave up 2 sacks, and a few other pressures. Eagles were moving guys around to get on Leary. They clearly exploited a weakness. Not giving up on him, he has been good all year. Hopefully it was just an off game.
Defensive Ends - I know Lawrence didn't get a ton of snaps, but he did NOTHING to impress again. Do not see the explosion or the ability to get off blocks on pass rush situations. Getting impatient waiting for him. Spencer and Mincey were constantly caught crashing inside on option plays. I give Mincey some credit for making a couple plays every game and fighting his tail off, but lets face it, he is adequate at best. I know playing against this fast pace offense is tough for the ends, but these last 2 games they have been terrible. If they don't start generating some pass rush, we are in trouble. Pathetic that our inside guys are the only ones generating pressure.
Brandon Carr - It is becoming clearer and clearer this guy cannot play anymore. We knew he wasn't a burner, but his physicality in which he played receivers on the line of scrimmage is completely gone. He is constantly getting run right by. I'll be shocked if he isn't cut after season is over. Reminds me of Terrance Newman in his last season with us.
JJ Wilcox - He is so frustrating. He plays with reckless abandon. He possess physicality, aggressiveness and speed that this defense sorely needs, but he has absolutely no discipline in the way he plays. Takes awful angles, does not know how to read keys, whiffs on lots of tackles because he is always looking for the big hit, and is rarely where he needs to be in coverage. He needs to be a special teams player, and an emergency safety at best.
