Before the start of the 2016 NFL season, I made the prediction that the Dallas Cowboys would play the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl

The Cowboys and Steelers would go on to play the regular season game of the year in 2016

The Steelers lost and fell to a record of 4-5, while the Cowboys left Pittsburgh at 8-1 and riding an eight game win streak

The Cowboys season peaked two weeks later with a Thanksgiving Day win over the Commanders, the Steelers meanwhile would go on to win nine straight games after the Dallas defeat and their season would end in the AFC Championship Game

The Steelers have a combined record of 17-3 since their 2016 regular season loss to the Cowboys

The Cowboys have a combined record of 10-6 since that meeting.(didn't count the finale)

What happened since then to shift these teams outlooks?

Steelers look like a contender

I'm not sure if the Cowboys can beat the Chargers(even w Zeke)

We took their best punch that day, and spit it right back in their face, how did they walk away the better team in the future?

Their talent get appreciably better following that game? Ours get worse?

Steelers had shaky QB play for at least a month this season, how did they survive then thrive regardless?

What happened to switch these two teams fortunes?

• Might be unfair of me to say the Cowboys season peaked on Thanksgiving in 2016

• A combined record of 10-7 if you count the Mark Sanchez finale at Philadelphia

Watt and JuJu......

Agreed the Steelers first and second round picks have been huge for them. Antonio Brown seems to be always open and never seems to have two bad games in a row. I do think getting two automatic wins vs. Cleveland every year does help. They have looked awful at times especially on the road (Lucky to beat the Colts last week) but they are tough to beat at home.

As far as the Cowboys our first and second round picks have done almost nothing, not Cheedo's fault and I really liked the pick but he adds to the curse of Cowboys second round draft picks that never offer immediate help. Then we lose almost our entire secondary and go young which I get but there are going to be growing pains along the way. So many misses in the second round since 2011 leaves this team with little to no depth and a steep drop-off when quality starters go down. Not only that but Stephens philosophy of dumpster diving in free agency puts a lot of pressure on the FO to have to hit on almost every draft pick which is just not going to happen. Despite all that, a brutal schedule, and a witch hunt by the NFL, if Sean Lee stays healthy and with Zeke I truly believe our only loss is to Denver. Despite the Chaz Green fiasco the Atlanta O was doing nothing early on until Lee got hurt. Being forced to play Jaylon way more than they wanted too has blown up in the FO's face. Even the eternal optimist Jerry has to be shocked and at bad he has been. Watching him play right now is painful and he looks like a shell of the instinctive and athletic freak he was in college. I hope he beats the odds next year and becomes the player this team needs him to be.

Their drafted players actually make plays.

For example, we are still waiting for Byron’s Jones to make a meaningful play three years into his career.

I won’t even put it on the head coach as I think Tomlin is only slightly better than Garret, and I can’t stand Garret.

Their coordinators are better though.

They move AB around and get him wide open. They switch things up like yesterday they ran no huddle.

They are very, very fast all throughout that team. We have almost no team speed whatsoever.

Jaylon Smith looks like the worst player we have had in a decade. And that is not me exaggerating.

You mean a meaningful play like the pick 6 to seal the victory against the Commanders. Seriously the hate that Jones gets is ridiculous

Right....I'm not even sure if he's worse than Taco. So yeah he's exaggerating.....
I wouldn't have said Taco but I'm thinking he has forgotten some of the players that have come through here.

Had he said Green..... Then possibly I would have agreed

Hate the stealers but we don't compare to them. Wait until next year when ben is gone. They're always relevant were not.

You mean the meaningful one that dropped into his lap when there was 20 seconds left? Literally anyone could make that play.

Okay sorry. Waiting for three years for him to make more than one meaningful play.

It's clear you haven't watched much football if you think that..... By the way it was more then 20 seconds. You forget the multiple times he has broken up passes on key 3rd downs and passes broken up at the end zone to save the touch down.

I get it you got an agenda but I would suggest find you a different whipping boy so you don't look silly and unknowledgeable.

it's a culture thing. players that come into that organization are expected to play tough, physical, blue collar football and stout defense. guys like byron jones, kyle wilber would not be pulling pension checks in pittsburgh. there's also a lot of pride that resonates throughout that franchise that I don't get the sense exists in Dallas anymore. the Steelers have too much pride to allow the Packers to come into their home with numerous injuries and ruin their HFA...it would not have happened. meanwhile we have a .500 record at home, teams come here and put their feet on the table, eat our food, and clog our toilets and our response is just more clapping.

another question to ask is despite the steelers having more drama in their locker room than the cowboys, why are they able to handle it and seemingly feed off of it while our players get shell-shocked by it?

They don't get half the media attention the Cowboys do. Every show starts off with a Cowboys story. Maybe the spotlight isn't as easy to handle as we all think. Of course, the cure is to be so damn good that it doesn't matter - like the 90s teams. Where is Jimmy Johnson when you need him?
