Cowboys Want Brandon Carr To Take A Pay Cut, But Believe He Could Get $5-$6M From Another Team

Might be higher if he and jones start at safety and give Carr much better confidence to play his man.

Just playing devil's advocate

I disagree, the decision on where to start Jalen (safety or CB) won't be determined when the pick is made imo (similar to the Jones situation). So when the pick is made, the Cowboys will then have "leverage" in any contract negotiations with Carr. Now this is all just banter, but if Jalen is the pick the Cowboys will at least appear to have Carr's replacement. Even is its not their intention to start him at CB.

Broaddus claims they are looking at him as a CB, although he thinks he's a better safety. Even claimed in his opinion that Byron would be a better CB.

In today's market $9 million isn't a big price tag for a starting CB.

I think fans under rate his abilities as well. Dallas was 5th in yards passing per game last season, with next to no pass rush. He isn't a super start but he is a solid starter.

Solid as in non playmaker.

And I don't doubt they are looking at him at CB. I may have even read the same report from Broaddus. My point was, if hypothetically were not looking at him at CB they would still have the leverage in negotiating with Carr. That's if Jerry didn't show his cards of course.

Let's see what his leverage will be if this guy falls

If you think Carr (without a pass rush) is bad then you will truly dislike this player by the end of next season. The guy is overrated.

Find a pass rush and fans complaints about Carr will drop significantly.

Resign Hardy and find a DT and DE later in the draft.

Drafting a CB with the fourth pick will not solve Dallas' problems; it will only get worse.

I might not be as knowledgeable as some but I've been a fan of this team for more than 50 years and I say they can do no worse by letting him go.

Hard to say who is right about some of these things but your honesty is refreshing.

Carr is not taking a pay cut, he is in the last year of his contract and the Cowboys have no replacement for him

He knows they are not going to release him so he has no incentive to take a pay cut

They need competition to put some pressure on him. Without that I fear you are correct.

We've got the group we had last year, plus Scandrick back and whatever we do in the draft.

Carr's overpaid and has no leverage. We'll get a renegotiation done after the draft, add a year or two, and the young guy will then become the replacement for Mo next season.

I feel like they're waiting to get someone from the draft or late in free agency to replace carr. He'll get released.

It makes me chuckle that many in here act like Carr stole your baby from it's crib
Carr is playing against the #1 receiver as a #2 CB; he does this with no help from the DL to apply pressure and make the QB's throw errant passes....not his fault that the FO has not gotten him help nor is it his fault that they paid him a king's ransom....IMO, he is a decent player, he just isn't a #1 CB and he gets paid too much...I would love to see him stay at a reduced rate; but, if cutting him saves the cap room and allows other signings, then so be it....I am indifferent to the Carr plight, with the exception of all of the armchair QB's in here that are so angry about him....geez, not worth the aggravation, move along , move along

So I'm guessing we can give a pass to all the cb's and the safeties too. Because they have no pass rush to help them. And the linebackers in coverage, they too have no pass rush to help them.

I'd rather go CB at 4 and 34 than watch Carr play for the Cowboys again. Yes I am preparing for more disappoint this year. Is it to much for him to get just one INT at some point? What an epic fail.

Yeah ive been giving them a pass for a few years now. The pass rush has way more impact on production of the secondary than the salary or draft pick used on the secondary does.
