Cowboys were interested in Matt Forte

Why would they have an interest in Matt Forte with the money he commands? If they need a RB they can take Elliot who is and will be better than Forte some day and who makes more financial sense then spending on player on his last legs. Glad we didn't get him.

I'm not sure if a phone call with him hanging up after we offered him an incentive contract with a vet min base constititutes as "serious interest".

Not of course....he only mentioned 4 teams and said only 2 had any significant interest with Dallas being 1 of the 2.

He didn't say any other team wanted him...so what are you talking about?

Sarcasm. Man, lighten up.

He had nothing to gain by saying the Cowboys had "significant" interest. Of course he did get a nice amount of money from the Jets.

The significance of the story is that we had serious interest in bringing him in...this is a real sign that we don't plan to go into next season with DMC as the lead back. It's also a sign that we still don't plan to pay a RB Demarco or Forte money...at least not a back on the wrong side of 30.

None of which should be a surprise to anyone here.

I agree. We're looking for at least a vet complement to McFadden based on this information (which is more reliable than just reporters saying we had an interest in Miller).. Of course, Dallas can't feel set in the backfield considering it currently only has McFadden. But trying to get Forte shows that we're not just after an adequate backup.

Actually, because they are interested in all those free agent RB's, I think they are trying to adress that position before the draft and therefore NOT have to pick RB early in the draft.

Yes, but considering there arent any options left.....they are going to just not draft one?

Not surprised. Wedge and Forte were the two older players I thought made good sense for us. Probably just a market that was a bit too rich given the salary cap increase this year. I'd have liked both players (Forte, a lot), but I'm just as glad to not have overspent.

People keep saying we are good at RB........we are not...........we have basically one guy in McFadden that is any good and a bunch of scrubs behind him. So yea, its no secret we are interested in Murray, Forte, or any other legit RB.

In this league you need 2 starting caliber RBs and right now we only have one.........very possible we are eyeing Zeke in the draft.

We may take Henry in the 2nd, if not then probably one in the 3rd. I doubt we go after Zeke unless we trade down.

Wonder if they will look into Foster as a #2 RB. Dude just can't stay healthy though, but maybe you get him and then draft someone like Alex Collins.

No thanks. IMO He's too clean, not a dirty yards runner. He's just not that mentally tough and lacks balance if he's pushed around. Great between the tackles if there is a wide hole but if he's challenged or having a bad day seems to get lost in the game. I want someone fresh and hungry, not afraid to get into fight.

Key word in there was #2 running back.

Also, I mean, Forte saying this is kind of silly. Sure they had interest, but you got $9M guaranteed from the Jets. You're 30. Ain't nobody else but the Jets giving you $9M guaranteed.

Yup. This shows exactly how interested we were in him.

We can, you know, be committed to a tandem of McFadden and Forte.

One guy doesn't get 100% of the snaps all the time.

Why though? Why keep getting old RB's, just to have to turn around and replace them in a year? We need to draft a young, durable RB. Like in the first 3 rounds. I used to think taking Elliott @4 would be dumb, but he's the only olayer who'd have an immediate impact.

We're picking at the top of the round. We'll be able to get a quality back in the draft if we want one.

Someone with "insider" information said, I believe, that the first two picks for Dallas would be Bosa and Herny. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up that way, although you never know who is going to be available.

Booker from Utah or Perkins from UCLA would be nice gets.
