Wow.

Hopefully it's similar to Rat's first deal.

A good bump in pay, but not breaking the bank

Looks like somebody beat me to it. Mods can delete this if they want.

Is he a free agent after this year? Wondering why they don't wait and see how he plays this year before loading all that cash to him.

It's rather simple. If he continues where he left off last season, he's going to get very very expensive and will want to test the market for the most money possible. The Cowboys are rewarding him without having to overpay for his continued service.

This is great great news. If he has the year most think he will, he will be much more expensive to keep. I'm sure there's going to be those saying make him prove it again, but I'm content getting it done now. That would leave Hardy as the only deal to worry about after this season.

Because if he has a year anywhere close to what people think he's going to he will be too expensive. Dareus, Suh and Mccoy have ran the DT market sky high.

Have you seen $$$ figures related to this deal? I've looked and can't find anything regarding amounts being offered.

Hope they get this deal done but if I'm Crawford I think twice about signing now.
If he signs it's because he wants to be a cowboy

Signing is a calculated risk on both sides. For him, signing now gives him security in case of injury, not to mention what will likely be a nice payday, and for the Cowboys, it locks up what they obviously think is a very important piece of the puzzle in the future. I think it's highly doubtful his play regresses unless he gets injured. Locking him up now is the smart move if they can agree on the $$.
